Hi guys
I need to buy new tyres (plus need rims) for my Hilux and trying to work out what to get is doing my head in!
I rang tyre shop "A" and they will do a set of CSA Jackals 16x8 +20 offset with 265/70R16's.
I rang tyre shop "B" and they said the overall height is too big and illegal plus will stick out of the gaurds so recommended a set of 245/70R16's on ROH Terrain 16x7" rims +30 offset.

This is on a 2009 SR dual cab.

No one has made mention of a 265/70 on a 16x8 +20 rim in this thread, does anyone know if it will fit or hit?
I would prefer this size although not sure if its legal in QLD

Or am I better off stick to only the 245 width on the ROH rim?

I ended up going with the 245's on the CSA +20 offset 16x8 rim and I must say that the tyres are RIGHT in line with the guards, ANY wider would be sticking out.

Definitely need flares to go a 265 on this rim.

Went up to Fraser Island for 5 days and am very impressed with the new tyres, didn't get stuck once, and performed a recovery on 2 other vehicles

For the record, I believe the guy that said 265/70R16's was illegal was talking about a 265/75R16, as the 70 series profile is less than 50mm overall increase from standard, the 75 series is 70 odd mm increase which is illegal in QLD. He ended up missing out on $2.5k for not listening to what the customer wanted

Standard UCA'a and 32's

Postby dv8 on Tue, 06 Jan 2015 9:26 +0000

Hi guys,
I have a 2014 sr5 Dual cab Manual T.D and have looked everywhere but can't seem to find the answer I'm looking for. What I'm trying to figure out is this....I want to put 275/70r17 tyres on the stock rims but i'm wondering if it will clear the standard UCA's due to the larger profile of the tyre. I have the stock 265/65r17 tyres on at the moment which are 30.5" diameter. The 275/70r17's are 32.15" diameter. The clearance at the moment is pretty tight and i'm concerned as the suspension travels up and down that the larger tyre will scrape. I will be installing a 2" suspension lift at the same time as the tyres. Can you guys please give me some info.........everything on search pertains to mostly 16" rims and different offset s for either 265/75r16 (31.65" dia) or else 33" setups. I'd like to keep the std rims as they are brand new and also due to insurance I don't want to change the Factory UCA's yet.

Thanks guys, yr help is appreciated.

Regards DV8.

Hi
I'm not 100% on an answer for your setup, I have just put a 16x8 wheel (just a std steely) with 32 inch tyres on my 05 hilux and has a pos 20 offset and it clears the factory uca.
I do have extended ball joints in the std uca's.
I also have a lift, but not 100% on exact lift...would be atleast 2inch.

Also this should be down in the 'post 05' section. You might even find something if you search through the 32" wheel thread.
Which is here viewtopic.php?t=11217

If you get stuck with finding stuff there's the search up top left...

Topics Merged.

DV8 continue with your question in here.

Your suspension lift wont affect the clearance to the UCA from the tyres. Seeing as you are keeping the same wheels you can measure it fairly accurately. Your new tyres will be about 10mm wider so 5mm closer to the UCA and the top of the tyre will be about an inch higher than the current tyres. With this in mind you should able to see if they will fit.

Cheers,

Chris.

Yep, thanks chris it is the height that i'm concerned about. I've got the stock bridgestone h/t on at the moment and they have very rounded edges and they seem to just slip in before touching. I'll get under there and take some measurements. Just wondered if anyone knew the short answer or have tried it before. Cheers guys

What offset to use on 17" rims?

Postby Atho on Tue, 10 Feb 2015 1:40 +0000

Hey guys, I bought a new sr hilux in October last year (2014) and I'm getting some mud tyres for the upcoming winter. I'm looking at either 31s or 32s if I can. I'm also going to be using the same size rims as it came with (17") because it is proving quite a pain to find an answer about using 16"s. Anyway, I'm wondering what offset people are using? I like the look of the rim being dished out and the tyre sticking out off the rim further, if that makes any sense. Some pics would be good also. Thanks in advance

I have 265/70/17 MTZ's on the stadard sr5 rims on my 14 model lux, when they were first fitted it only scrubbed on the front mudflaps slightly other then that everything clears and in line with the standard flares

can post a pic of two if you like

I wouldn't go too wild with offsets. the wider you go the less chance of fitting without scrub.
ie. stay somewhere between +10 to +30
