Mine fit fine on patrol rims 16x8 P10 and my CSA monster 16x7 P20's Only needed to remove mudflaps after some steep tight offroading. No body lift here either.

Hi Cam
Oggy beat me to it

Sounds like offset might be the issue
I had 265/75/16 on P30 rims on my '07 SR5. No scrubbing, no need to remove mudguard.

You could trial fit P20 rims as Rod did below:
Rocket55 wrote:I ran 265/75/16 on +20 16x7 rim on 1" of lift (sagged 2") with no problems, good wheel alignment and it hit nothing, not even the mud flap.

I only had the body lift done when the 32s were on. With 0 offset you'll be doin some trimming, well I had to anyway. I had to trim my front bumper too as I was still building my bullbar.

About to put a set of 265/75 r16 on a 2010 hilux sr with no lift (yet). I've read through this whole thread and there seems to be mixed feedback on whether it will rub or not.

Decision: I'm going to run with it and cut off anything that I have to hahaha.

Thanks for all the info regardless.

When I finally put my new tires on I could only get less than 1/4 of a turn on the steering wheel and that was with lift. Had to get a re-alignment to sort out the caster and do some chopping to get is sorted.

All depends on what offset rims you going to run. If 0 offset, as Cam states, you will get significant scrubbing.
If you are still running your stock suspension (since 2010?) there will be a fair amount of sag and scrub
Sounds like you would like to get a lift at some stage so just take it easy till then

Came with Dynapro At 265/65r17 and they only scrub on the front bar every now and then when I hit a steep hill with a bit of pace (sounds shocking). I can't imagine it will be too much worse, depending on the offset as you say. I have to get new rims as well so I should be able to get it sorted. Cheers for the feedback.

Ran it with +20 offset (after some thorough reading on here, thanks).

Also cut a small section out of each end of the bar which has no doubt helped

VERY rarely get a little scrubbing if I go quick into an uneven/bumpy corner, or hit a driveway too quick.

With the pressures down I was going much slower while off roading and had no issues but when going a bit quicker on decent dirt road with turns, there was scrubbing before putting the pressure back up.

All in all there's nothing to worry about, it'll do just fine till I get the lift in a few months.

Also when you got your 32s, correct me if I’m wrong, you had a 2” lift and 2” body lift so you didn’t have to do any chopping?

Bit late, tyres are likely so worn that they do fit now :D

265/70-r17 would be 31.6"

however you mention 165/77-r17 which calculates to 32.6" (closer to 33")

Equivalent to 265/65R17 (17x7.5 rims) in 16's

Postby SteveD1984 on Wed, 23 Mar 2022 8:22 +0000

Don't bust my balls about the search, I'm pretty dyslexic and find it hard to read through pages of text.

I currently have 265/65/R17's on 17x7.5 steelies (unsure of offset, but they stick out about 25-30mm of my 2012 4x4 workmate, no flares)

I want to switch to 16's so I can air them down more for hills. I presume I need 265/70R16's? Should I get a 16x8 or 16x7.5 rim, and with what offset? presumably a 16x7.5 would allow the tire to bag down easier? I need to stay legal too. I'll whack some flares on later.

Tire placard reads 205/16C

If anyone can suggest an exact rim that I can just go and order, that would be great. I'm in Perth.

Thanks

From memory the common size back in the day was 265 75 16 for 32in tyres.

Wider rims will give you more air volume which will allow you to go to a lower psi.

Have a look at this tread that I have merged your question with.

Originally my 2015 vigo double cab came with alloy:
ET30 - 265/65R17

As snowchains would foul the UCA i decided to run:
ET20 (steel dotz dakar) - 245/70R17

With that I also obtained kings 2" front lift and OME 2" 350+ kg leafs for the rear.

Now these are worn I'm looking for a tad bigger, want it to be closer to the outside of the car as I now lean on my arches / sliders to fast.
Looking at

8x17 6x139.7 ET10 CTR106.1 Steel Goss Soft 8 Hole (Soft 8 Hole)
285/65R17 DISCOVERER S/T MAXX. (if they exist in that size???) 275/70R17 seems an option in the S/T MAXX

Image

Any opinions?
I wouldn't mind trim plastic, I'd rather not be beating steel
I do mind road noise as that's where the car is 90% of the time.
I do mind OffRoad capabilities as my 10% offroad trips I have to keep up with a bunch of LandCruisers on 35's

Safe to one size bigger? with my (already bit sagging) 2" lift ? For example 285/70R17 (that would be closer to 33")

the answer is probably in this thread but In the 1/2 hour Ive been looking I havent found it.
When I change the wheels on my 2007 petrol lux 3.58:1 diffs am I going to need to get the diff ratios changed?
Or is it bearable I want bigger wheels it currently has 245 70? 16 , I want 265 75 16 .
Ole mate said I will notice a power loss but hasn't driven a v6 with big wheels I assume which I will ask ole mate before he gets started that it will be leagal when hes finished I plan on driving it to Darwin via Cairns late this year.

Its bearable - I drove 285 70 17 (33in) for what seemed like ever with stock gearing. 5th gear didnt get much use though. The power is still there, you just need to find a lower gear to find it.

265 75 16 which is about 32in is the sweet spot for the hilux. You may cost you more fuel but its more likely to be the weight/style or tyres costing fuel than size.
I might be wrong.

Steve, like Hiluxxury says, 265/75x16 is ideal for a N70 Hilux. I have a 2007 V6 auto and they put the speedo spot on and while there is going to be some slight power difference to the wheels, I only notice that there is slightly less wheelspin than there was with the 245's. I have a set of +30 rims with AT's and a set of +10's with muds on a 2" lift. No rubbing with the AT's, but there is some with the mud tyres. I removed the factory front mudflaps and fitted some rubber strips to the sidesteps to overcome the rubbing. There is an increase in fuel consumption, but that's possibly partly due to having an accurate speedo.

Well:

275/70R17 coopers STT MAX on ET20 rims do rub on mudguards when full lock steering (without spring compression, flat surface, and with 2" lift)
Does anyone have a howto on what to remove / cut in plastic parts to make that few CM of room?

I upgraded the exhaust to a full 3inch Redback system and reckon that has helped a bit.

Hi there, you won’t notice much power loss. I have the same 13’ SR5 and I’ve had 33 inch tyres on mine for around 80k now. Just changed them back to 32’ inch which i had previously and haven’t even noticed a difference.

Could be a couple of things going on there - tyre weight, differences in sizes between manufactures etc etc.

As a general rule however, when you increase the diameter, you increase the final ratio of gearbox/diff etc - this causes a sluggish power loss feeling.

The power of the engine hasn't changed but for example, I found that with 285 70 r17, my 5th gear was pretty useless at 100km/h (GPS 100km/h). This is why many people lower diff ratios to get the power feeling back.
I might be wrong.
