Mate that your body mount, a few of us including myself have had troubles hitting on this especially whilst offroading. Theres a few things you can do, if you can find what offset your running that'd help us figure out what would be best.

Thanks to the guys on here (Max and quinny) they found that a "0" offset rim works best with 285 tires and factory upper control arms, so your easist solution may be to try some new rims.

If your not willing to swap your rims, chopping the body mount is the only other option although you may still have to do this with 0 offset rims. IF you want to run 285/75x16 tire its a risk you have to take if you plan on doing hard wheeling. have a look at this thread Max put together with a few examples of whats involved:

Hope this helps, Max

Paul,

before you start chopping go and another wheel alignment from a place that understand these 4x4's.

alot of the time the technicians dont put enough castor in the adjustment...ask the technician to put in as much Castor as is possible "within factory specs" so right at the edge of whatever the spec are.

this will move your axle/wheel position a tad bit forward.....might be "just" enough to clear on that mount...if that fails trim.

Well i actually picked it up yesterday from Heisman's who do suspension etc, and they moved it forward as much as possible already, and it still rubs when going up a drive way or down a ditch and turning.

So it looks like ill be spending the weekend chopping and no 4WD'ing, i was supposed to be going away

Might take advantage of this time and buy some bash plates and fit them on :D

Whats the wheel offset mate? could be as simple as changing your wheels?

I really don't know, i might have the boxes of the wheels still but not 100% sure.

I can measure it later on but i just spent 400 bucks on the rims so i really don't want to fork out another 400 for new ones.

Plus they wont accept them now so a refund or a swap is out of the picture.

hi fellas ive read this thread a thousand times and a few members builds trying to get it right before i part with the dollers as my local tire shops not intrested in helping! I am wanting to do the 16x8 sunraisa style rim with 285/75 km2 muddie. i was hoping to get away with a +15 or +10 offset rim with tuff lux UCAs but all the tire shops tell me no one makes these offsets in a steel rim. So i am left with a +20 or the 0. I know the zero is the way to go with out changing the ucas, but i realy want to try and keep the tire in as much as possible. has any one done the +20 with a muddie and ucas? i have seen one fella on here with the +20 and atz. but will my combo work?
Cheers

You can get a GU Patrol Steelie which is a 16x8 +10 offset and they fit. just another option for you.

+20 might work but it'd be a case of which brand tyre as there are slight size differences between brands.

personally, I think even with Aftermarket UCA's, the tyre will still be incredibly close to the actual steering knuckle/spindle itself.

I just jumped under my hilux and did a check for you....I held a steel ruler against the inner tyre sidewall lugs and then another ruler running off it inwards towards the edge of the steering knuckle.

Now if you jump under your hilux and have a look you'll know what Im talking about. Near the top of the steering knuckle below the upper balljoint...there is a casting bump that comes out of the knuckle itself.

My tyres being one of the widest 285's I would rub if it was a +15 offset wheel. with my tyres I wouldnt go less than +10, whether you have UCA's or not...I dont beleive it would matter in this case.

+20 on my ruler and the tyre sidewall would actually be touching the edge of the steering knuckle itself....Ill try and get a pic and post it up.

like i said, if your gonna run a +20, your gonna want the narrowest 285 on the market.

got the +10 patrol rim or zero offset......little bit of trimming, you will still benefit from the UCA's in terms of down travel and alignment.

Ok,

heres the pics I promised in my last post...hope this helps some of you that are unsure/undecided.

First Pic
In the pic below you can see (I did me best with the pic), that you could run my tyre on a +10 comfortably, +15 (if you could find an 8" wheel with that offset) would be just missing that casting bump on the side of the steering knuckle. I guess if you were really adamant to run a +20 you probably could on a narrow 285 (one thats 11.2/11.3 wide overall) and maybe grind a little off this bump if you run into trouble. Personally I'd recomment the +10 GU Steelies. That 10mm goes a long way when you turn the wheel and the outer edge is closest to the bodymount.
Image

Second Pic
In this next pic I thought I'd take a front on picture with the straight edge of my ruler against the sidewall of my tyre going up to the Factory UCA.
In regard to the clearance on the inner side of the tyre I could probably run a 35 with this offset (not considering tyre clearance at rear of guards) if I didnt have to turn the wheels of course! You can see that little casting bump on the outer edge of the steering knuckle which is the limiting factor unless your keen to remove it. The edge of the Factory UCA isnt the only limitation to consider, that bump is also.
Image

Hope that helps.

Hey Guys, just wanted to let you know that it all went well.

We initially just cut away and welded on new plates for the body mount which turned out fine, but it was still rubbing on the sidestep and flare/body, so we had to cut a little bit of the sidestep on and modify the black cover to fit on, also had to cut a little bit of the body but nothing major, in the end it turned out fine and can now drive as hard as i want with out worrying.

The wheel offset is actually 0 and they still didn't fit.

Thanks Mmaaxx & Marshwa for your help :D

Ok so ive just fitting my VMN bodylift kit (thanks Rod), makes me 2" susp and 2" body lift, and im going to dare to fit some 285/75/16 on some 0 offset black sunnies, not 100% sure on the tyre tho, im guessing the BaJa Mtz would be the easiest?

Also i dont understand why you have to do a bodymount chop when the back gaurd would be the first thing that hits, unless u trimmed that all the way back to the body mount, then chopped the body mount? so confused.

People are not trimming the bodymount without trimming the inner guards first.

it is necessary to remove the front mudflap, trim the inner guard liner, trim the bottom corner of the flare/quarter panel and possibly bend/bash the pinchweld back abit......aswell as the bodymount.

depends on the wheel offset and tyre width/diameter with how far you need to go.

ok, well im attempting to fit a set of 285/75/16s BFG KM2s on a 2" susp 2" body lift, am i the only one who has attempted to fit these with a 2" susp lift? ive already pre trimmed the guards but thats not really what im worried about, im more worried that ill put the wheels on at the shop and they hit the body mount and i cant even drive the thing home! , but at home is where the body mount trim will take place, wish me luck
