Jogal to be totally honest I'm not sure what effect it has on the speedo. I haven't really had the opportunity to work it out yet as I have only had the tyres on for 1 week or 2. I am heading out to Alice Springs next week so I will be able to use the GPS as a guide.

As for fuel consumpsion when you come from a Jeep Wrangler with a 4.5 inch lift and 33inch tyres and you are used to getting about 330kms from 72 litres then you get into a Hilux that does 600 odd kms to those same 72 litres you feel like you are driving the most fuel economic vehicle around.

Good point Smithy. I wasn't having a go, just didn't want to increase my own fuel use too much. Just got the new Cooper ST's fitted... and they performed flawlessly during the 5 minute drive home 8-)

hi harry, ive just gone from 30x9.5r15 kumhos to 31x10.5r15 bridgestone m/t. main reason for changing brand after 5 sets, was to get a little more height , but mostly for the much better load carrying ability. the bridgies are a lot quieter on road than the kumho despite a more aggressive looking pattern. the truk is definitely slightly higher geared, most noticeable when passing. i havent noticed any fuel use difference. the fuel light still comes on almost bang on 600kms, when running unloaded. the tyres may get noisier after they wear down a fair bit. my single cab has a fair bit of road noise coming from behind the seat and drives me nuts anyway! hope this might help.

Ask Smithy
I'm sure his truck is lifted & he modified the front guards to fit 265/75-16

245/70/16's BFG's definately do but my tyre dood didn't recommend the 265's without lift.
Is it wrong to love your truck this much?

265/75/16 BFG ATs (32s) on a standard height truck would definately have plenty of rubbing. You would be mad to do it. I have a 2 inch OME lift how ever used 10mm packers in the front and heavier rates springs in the front which ended up giving me 60mm of lift in the front.

Oh yeah and even with that lift there is still cutting required.

ARB. As far as I am aware they only did a 10mm packer. IF you need the part number I can give you that. My whole kit was OME.

Any idea what the size of the original factory tyres on 2007 SR5's are?? Been checking out the BFG & Coopers sites. Would 30inch tyres be close to the originals? I see a lot of people have gone to 31's without too many troubles.

Thanks all for the info guys. I never thought that choosing the right tyres was going to be so complicated and be such a gamble. At least 4wd tyres are half the price of what the 18inch tyres on my current (soon to be traded) ute are - $510each!! Yikes!

mmm... gold I think!

I bought a BA2XR8 ute a couple of years ago and optioned it up to the 18's. What a brainwave idea that turned out to be when I recently found out how much it was going to cost to replace them with same again...

hey fellas, just a bit of food for thought....

I'm still running on the standard rims/tyres on my 06 SR5. Now I know that my speedo is about 10% out...ie. when I'm doing 110 km/hr indicated on the speedo then I'm actually doing about 100 km/hr.
Now when I look at the trip computer it tells me that over my last trip the average fuel burn was 8.2l/100km. If the speedo is linked to the odometer which is linked to the trip computer could that mean that my real fuel burn over the same distance was actually 8.2 + 10% which is approx 9.1l/100 km.
Now when you blokes that have put on bigger radius tyres you say your speedo now runs almost spot on but your fuel burn is now up around 9.1-9.2l/100km could this suggest that your fuel burn really hasn't changed?...that is, now that the speedo is more accurate the computer can now give a more accurate indication of fuel burn.

Just throwing it out there

Daniel

Crikey! This topic is turning into a maths lesson!

I think at the end of the day, there isn't much in it. These things run on the sniff of an oily rag either way. If anything needs the most attention regarding fuel, focus on the fed govt - they're the ones that can reduce any of the fuel taxes to reduce costs for us...
