Yeah they work and look great, yeah maddog they stick out a little each side so if john law wanted to hammer you he probably could the prado rims are good if you can get em or are willing to pay for them, had a wrecker quote me 125 each and they were in Sh#t condition, but they are thick and heavy so will take a punding!

Your right rod, missus samsung camera crapped itself so i didnt have any picks with the new tyres on anyway!!

Ive recently found out, thanks to Pradopoint that those steelies are closer to a +15 offset than a +20 offset.....thou only a small difference would be the difference between the tyre rubbing on the sway bar on full lock or the UCA....

just thought Id mention that....they are a great steelie thou.

measured up the rims this morning. I have tyres on the rim so I couldn't measure the exact wheel width.

from the rear centre face to the outer edge of front rim= 90mm
from the rear centre face to the outer edge of rear rim= 119.5mm

going by the calc used in tyre calc post viewtopic.php?f=27&t=3852, to find the centre of the rim

(width of rim- manufacturer + 1 inch)= 8*25.4/2= 101.6mm
(using my measurements above + 2mm for centre face width) = 90+120+2= 205/2= 105mm

so the offset is either
(manufacturer)= 120-101.6= 18.4mm
(my measurements)= 120-105= 15mm

Obviously my measurement might have a slight human error.... but I'm going to go with mmaaxx and say its a =15 offset

So I've been shopping around for prices for 255/85/16 KM2's. Got the usual "your annual income plus your first born" from the big name companies. The prices got lower as I rang the smaller companies. $335 was the best. Finally I rang Lindsays Tyres in Mt. Everlyn. These guys deal with 4by's a lot and are in the comp scene. He told me they don't stock BFG's anymore because people aren't buying them. He said that the BFG agent rang him and asked what brand of tyre he could supply him that is good. When asked why, whats wrong with your tyres, the agent said they are having trouble selling KM2's because people are struggling to get 20000km out of them. The rubber compound is to soft. BFG are now out of favour with government departments and service companies after promoting the KM2's to them when they last less than 1/3 of the distance as the KM's. I asked if the KM2's are softer than MT MTZ's. He said yes only slightly though, but you can do some decent wheeling with the MTZ's and use them as daily drives and get on average 40k out of them but only 20k out of an equivalent sized KM2.

Now I'm not here to bash KM2's and to be fair the BFG website says that KM2's are good for 1. Mud Control and 2. Rock Traction. That is all. Where-as KM's are good for 1. Mud Control 2. Endurance 3. Sand and Gravel Control 4. Rim Protection and 5. Off-Road Tuning .

The tyres I buy will be play tyres only so I'm not worried about on road wear. The soft compound may be just what I need for the muddy hills around Warburton and the rocky tracks of the high country. I'm not interested in Simex or Silverstone Extremes. They are only good for mud.

It looks like RokitRyder and Just Fishn1 are running KM's. Is anyone running KM2's in this size or for that matter Bighorns?

Maddog...have you considered Bighorns?

I know they arent as tough as BFG's but they do come out in that size.

Ask DLUX how many kays he has gotten out of his KM2's...he runs 33/10.5x15's which is a tad smaller.

Ive heard the same about KM2's...they dont last long on the road....

My silverstones have done 40,000km for comparisons sake but they wouldnt be too good now in mud....

Yeah I did consider Bighorns. See the very last word of my post above . Nah I think Bighorns are the quiet achiever so to speak and I'm seeing more and more of them everyday. One of the dealers I spoke to said that they have sold a lot of them lately.

Dunno, if I get 20000km out of some KM2's that are strictly play tyres they should last a few years. I might give 'em a go.

.......and for another comparison I got 40,000km rotating 6 MTZ's . I retired them yesterday

I still feel like MTZ's are over rated the same as KM2's......not based on any experience mind you just from what I have seen on various forums from other members. Like all tyres they have their place. If you get 40,000km out of any mud terrain tyre then they have lasted as long as is expected.........if you expect any more, then go an all terrain.....

Yeah I'm looking at my Hilux in the carpark with 30" Toyo Open Country A/T's on it. Kinda looks flaccid.

Update : Right now there is 1 KM2 available in Australia in this size and it is in Brisbane. There are orders waiting for 32 tyres but the next shipment will only have 17 tyres in it. The next shipment after that will be at least 8 weeks away.
Looks like Bighorns are the winner. First quote @ $289 has them $46 per tyre cheaper than KM2. I'll let you know the best quote.

I have just fitted a set of 255/85/16 KM2's to the missus car .
More then happy with them so far .

They are complaining even on the Yank forums about the backlog with KM2 orders and that in the US....

Maddog...I got 32 x 11.5 x 15' bighorns, paid $230 each....with no haggling, couldnt be bothered at that price

Thanks Bairdy. Nope I can't get close to that in this size. $280 is the best I can get for the Bighorns.

Just had some 255/85/16 Bighorns put on. At this stage I'll report plenty of rubbing on the front mudflaps at 1/4 and 3/4 lock. It looks friggin horn though, Pics 2moro hopefully. work to make them fit properly will start next week.
