alloy versus steel rims

Need some advice on rims, we all love our Luxeys and want them to look great. I have a charcoal coloured dual cab and want to run a 265 75 16 tyre. Looks whise I was looking at an Allied Savanah rim machined Black at about 300 each. But I do a lot of 4wd in a local club so a steel sunraiser would probably be more practical (Black) What do you think?

Hi Kyle.
Depending on the type of 4wd you intend to do would determine the type of rim you get.
If your worried about rim damage get the Sunnies as they can be resprayed to remove any scratches. But charcoal luxes do look schmick with a nice alloy on them...
Cheers
Mark

Exactly what Skog said...pretty much depends on where/how you drive and what risk you want. Alloys look a million bucks and really do have their place...and they are also improving all the time. Steelies...yep, they are a good stock standard that can be bush mechaniced if really desperate and pretty much available at even the most remote spot. I've got sr5 alloy daily and steel for play
Cost versus risk...but prob more important, where and how you drive.

Agree with all the comments but from a practical point of view in the real world ,get the rims that you like the most.

Unless you are into really hardcore stuff or travelling in remote areas where you need a bit of bush mechanics on a rim to get you home any of the better quality rims will be up to the task IMHO.................how often do you hear of people damaging their rims??

Just my 2c

Steelies would be like buying a Triton, doesn’t look as good, its cheaper & has a few more features but you will spend your time driving around looking at Hilux’s because that’s the car you wanted…go the Alloys’s :D

the ultimate setup is have a play set and a road set (that is if you have the space and can afford to have 2 sets)

Kyle, Going through the same thing currently, Alloy or Steel if alloy something that if scratched want look like crap. 16” or 17” (looks like you have already made that decision, lucky you). Like everyone else has said it's a personal choice and whatever you choose will be right for you. ;)

Be a bit different and go SILVER sunnies, I have them on my white xtra cab and I reckon they look shit hot.

i have my factory alloys on still and have already scratched them a bit from getting bogged, so now i dont care too much about getting more scratches, i think 2 sets of tyres will be rather annoying to change all the time.

Mate you need to resize the photo's in photo bucket, avatar needs to be 120 or under.

Click on the photo in photo and go to edit that resize and save new resized photo
