Toyota Connected Services now in new Hiluxes

So my new Lux arrived on Friday and I noticed this weird "SOS" button in the roof console. Did some research and found out that all new Hiluxes now include a 3 year subscription to Toyota Connected Services, which seems like a pretty impressive but of kit. https://www.toyota.com.au/connected

Basically it means that there is a mobile communication device built into the car that communicates with mobile phone towers (Telstra network) and therefore offers a bunch of services.

My phone tells me where I've parked my car, notifies me if I've left a door or window open, tells me hour much fuel and range I have left. Apparently it also does analytics of recent trips but I haven't worked it how to view that yet.

If my car is stolen, Toyota can track it.

If I have a crash and my airbags deploy, Toyota will automatically notify emergency services of my location.

If I press the SOS button, Toyota will attempt to call me to see what the problem is. If they can't get hold of me they'll send out emergency services.

Anyhow, it seems like a pretty impressive inclusion. I'm interested in people's thoughts. After 3 years I can choose to pay to keep using it. No suggestion yet of how much it will cost. Toyota seems to have a pretty robust privacy policy for it since that would be an obvious concern for users, but I haven't read too deeply into it yet.

And I believe they can, or anyone else smart enough, ear-drop and listen conversation in the car

Any evidence to back that up?

Our smart phones are obviously listening to us all the time anyway....

Yeah, x2 with phones.

A few car manufacturers are doing this now.

Hopefully this will make it hard for people to modify the ECU particularly the DPF
