Dearer Hiluxes with more useless stuff on them

Postby HK1837 on Wed, 10 Jan 2018 12:53 +0000

Just saw this. Toyota is jumping on the Wildtrack bandwagon with even more expensive SR5's covered with mostly useless stuff.

They should put the development into decent engines!

Absolutely agree... Modern engines would be a good idea, not just black stripes and TRD stickers. I've had my rant before but here goes.... TRD stands for Toyota Racing Development, I believe these current TRD hilux are NOT racing development unless you think black makes them go faster/better. Hmmmm I thought red ones go faster! I have a TRD jacket with all the advertising and I think Toyota should hang it's head with the current TRD! The jacket is going to Vinnie's!

TRD used to mean better performance. Now it just means better looks.

Agree, TRD meant better performance but has never meant better looks! Go back and look at how ugly a 2008-ish TRD Hilux is.

I know i'm not a marketing guru or anything like that, but surely it would have made sense back in 2007-2009 to offer a TRD upgrade on an SR or SR5, rather than all the other fluff that a TRD Hilux came with? I never bought one because of all the useless price adding fluff so I bought a low km VZ Cross8 instead, but I would have jumped on an SR5 with TRD mechanical upgrades, ie the supercharged engine and 120 Series front brakes.
Fast forward to today, adding a performance engine rather than all the other junk forced upon you would be a big seller. Imagine say if you could buy an XLS Ranger with the 3.6L V6 turbo Ecoboost engine, and not get all the other window dressing other than what the engine needs? Or a boosted dual VVTi V6 in a Hilux?

Love the Hilux but that's a gimmick. Rugged is a bulbar.

That's I suppose why people buy on looks NOT performance lately, my rant on TRD won't be repeated here ;)

Yes a few different parts thrown on and some vinyl decals don't really justify new model names, but will have to wait and see the price increase before commenting. Shouldn't be much more unless they've included things we can't see in photos...

That will cost more! All changes no matter what, usually cost more and do less.

Hi guys, I've been lurking around this webstite for over a year but never posted. I bought a 2008 TRD Hilux about a year ago and have to say I love it. I did test drive a new ranger before I bought it because I do love the looks of the ranger and let's face it a 2008 Hilux is very sparsely equipped. The problem with the ranger was the lack of performance. Would have been happy to buy one if they had a petrol option. But oh well, I've always been a Toyota man anyway.

They go good compared to any diesel equivalent don‘t they?
The only thing that turned me off one when new was the HSV like changes to grille, bar etc. My 2011 SR5 is now TRD under the skin but hides in plain sight.
Does yours still have a part number sticker on the brake booster?

I didn't like the grill when they first came out, but now I don't mind it. It's a bit chunkier, a bit more truck like. Yeah mine has the sticker, it's build number 177. Had a diesel prado before it, found out I'm not a diesel person!
