Most of us know (Toyota owners in the past) that the suspension on these vehicles is not good.
Aftermarket suspension is the go.
Always factor this expense in when buying a Toyota 4wd. ;)

Spot on! i currently have the softest OME suspension all round in my '07 SR dual cab with boss airbags for loads. works extremely well for us. the new hilux was definitely more comfortable std than mine is which is a good start, but i can see me putting the new OME BP-51 in a new one when i get it. Quite a bit of expense to factor into an already $63k purchase, then theres a bullbar, towbar, snorkel, dual batt, tint.....

$63,000.00 for a ute?
Wait a while, I reckon.
Let it all settle down, and hopefully the price will fall.

I ordered an SR5 yesterday. My biggest disappointment in this new model was all the hype about there going to be bigger payloads and towing capacities. Sure the towing capacities have increased but what's with the payload. I have had to order a petrol because the diesel is only 925Kg payload, very disappointing to say the least. This isn't only limited to Toyota, the new ford Ranger XLT is only 950Kg as well. Maybe the taxation department are clamping down on FBT exemptions. The only other disappointment was the lack of rear aircon vents, my son will flip out over that one, apparently they rekon the cab isn't big enough to warrant rear vents. I just hope now that the petrol drives as well as the diesel.

Yes very disappointing I was under the impression payload would increase too.

SR5 - GVM – 3000 Kerb Weight- 2075 = 925

SR D/C cc – GVM- 3000 Kerb weight – 1955 =1045

Ranger Dual cab/cc XL - GVM 3200 Kerb weight - 2014 =1185

That payload thing is apparently to do with a fringe benefits tax loophole put in place for the people who would lease an SR5 so they can claim personal use or something, nothing to do with the vehicles capability as the chassis is now overall quite a bit stronger.

Just went to the Fiji launch of the 8th Gen Hilux last night in Suva. Was surprised to hear from the dealers that the Fiji market will be getting the new bodies with the old 2.5l and 3.0l D4D engines not the new GD engines. That is a f@#ing bull$h!t call and a slap in the face to the consumer! We are going to pay over AUD $40-50 for a new body with an old engine. Me and my cousin walked out of there in disgust. Was glad I picked up my 3.0l Hilux in January this year. My cousin just bought himself a 3.2l Mazda BT50 Pro, both of us were keen Hilux owners. Previously I had a 6th Gen 2.8l LN166 and he had the same followed by a 7th Gen SR5. Toyota dropped the ball big time on this one

Is the legroom/roof height in the front increased or the same?

Got the information I was chasing on the SR5 18" rim offset and it's all bad news for the rims I was going to fit.

18" offset is +34.

American Racing ATX Slots in 18" are only available in -24 so, is there any way around the difference or am I going to have to look at other brands of rims?

Ah true aye, I have a set of fuel rims which I was keen put on the new hilux, from memory I think they are a +10. They fit my current hilux well. The previous genuine rims are 17x7.5 (p30) from memory. So maybe these rims will fit the new hilux? Can anyone confirm? I'm on holidays at the moment but had a call from my dealer saying they have one stock now...might take my rim in a fit it too the front to see if it fits. I'll let you know the results.

2013 Hilux offset on the 17" was 0 and like you stated, 17 x 7.5. My slots are x 8.0

Roo, no offence but why the complaining about the price. You look at any decent manufacturer with a popular car or 4wd now. Nothing is under 55-60k drive away for a top of the line variant.
I for one, love the new hilux. I was even offered $35000 trade in for my 2010 my11 sr5 dual cab. Extremely impressed with that offer. I may still take it yet. Heading back for a test drive tomorrow at my local dealer.

That's a damn fine offer Pete, Pacific Toyota here in Cairns offered me 32 grand for my late 2013 21000km SR5.

Yeah I was really happy about it. Mine only has 38000km on it too. They had a bare basic one like mine on the lot for $39000 with 80000km. So as soon as he looked at mine the $$$ signs rolled in his eyes.

Finally got my laptop sorted :) , here's the pics from the test drive the other week, I still haven't received exact pricing from the dealer with the extras that I want, apparently hes had to go back to the Toyota technical specialist to ask about any issue on the CANBUS for some of the items I want to use. Bit slack really, I'm cashed up ready to buy and no feedback for over a week. I wonder how many of the alleged 36 pre paid ($500 for test drive) customers actually went through with a purchase last week?

Just to add to some of the other comments, the seats are definitely higher, they are basically using the same chassis and running gear underneath as they have for the last 10 years, That means the rear brake adjusters are still going to be shit. Something else I picked up on is the fan controls, they are a lot smaller and not as intuitive as the previous model. On the test drive I found I was looking down way too much to try and find the control I wanted on the panel, obviously there's some lack of familiarity but just one of those things to take note of.

I think the real competition is going to be the Ranger and BT50, The Mitsi is priced a lot lower and although its nice its not as refined as the rest. The NP300 looks pretty but has the same running gear that has plagued it over recent evolution's, diff and auto failures, engines not coping with Aussie summer temps.

Just signed on the dotted line for a sr with aluminium tray at Sale Vic. Cost 52k on road. Due delivery 20 to 21 Oct. Did not even try to trade in. Got evey extra on 2008 mod. Not impressed that much with new model but have always had Toyotas since 1977. I think this model is more aimed at the fleet market. Yes its going to be reliable I hope for my trips up north each year. Big problem now is all the extras I need like long rang tank and 2 inch lift for winch etc. The Toyato bull bar needs a cradle which is an extra for a winch so told. Wil wait for arb reliease on their bars. Deal done and will report on the after delivery.
