I got the chance to drive one today. They are really nice to drive, extremely quite and smooth when compared to my sr5. Although the power and acceleration didn't feel any different to my current hilux or the rangers I have drove.
Overall it just seems to be refined and more car like when compared to the 7th gen (150 series) hilux. It is definitely larger and higher. Oh and the sr5 finally comes with an alarm!!!
Sleeping on my trade in and change over price. Swaying toward it though. :D

$47,500 drive away.
SR extra cab, white.
I compare the price to the Prado models. That's what I mean when I say it's just a ute.
You can buy a GX white GDJ150 for $55,000 drive away.

They cost what the market is willing to pay for them roo, it's the way of the world.
If the new model doesn't sell, the prices will come down accordingly.

Price for dual battery kit is around $800 fitted without battery. It apparently holds a 65AH battery the same size as the starter battery. I have ordered my Hilux with this kit but the batteries are a special size and are not available yet.

Toyota are now offering under and over rail tub liners. I have ordered an under rail to go with my canopy.

I saw the new steel Bullbar in the flesh the other day and I am very impressed with it. Looks much better in real life than the photos on their website.

I checked out the new model yesterday.
Wasn't fitted out yet so they said come back Friday and I could take it for a drive.

It was fitted with factory Bull bar,one problem I spotted with it was spot light mounting points they are way to close to the grill.
I don't think you will be able to fit a descent set of spot lights on the factory bar if anyone was thinking of get 1.

Best wait to TJM, ARB etc to see what they come up with.

I've heard some nasty rumours about the "diff lock" ie. it's not a proper locker

Can anybody confirm?

Well, I would of thought that it would be like the old electronic lockers found in the 80 series.
It's based on the E Locker made by Detroit.

I question that's probably not going to be answered for a while but ..

Was wondering with Toyota's "extensively tested in Australia" suspension is there now going to be a real need to fit an after market lift kit to the new vehicles?

Yea the control arms look the same, shocks and springs look a bit beefier though, the front body mount doesn't seem as big either so looks good for fitting 33's to 2inch lifts :P

Was told by the Toyota rep that the sr5 has 45mm more ground clearance and 30 per-cent more -stronger under body protection, the sr5 did look taller than the sr and it has a 3 pin plug in centre console like a house plug, wonder if its 240v. With over a million Au kms testing. 56k for the sr5 or they had the old sr5 for 47k

Nothing against you, Steve.
These reviews are nothing short of ad editorials. Just fluff and goo.
Show me a review done by someone who has a grip on automotive engineering (not a journalist that has sold his or her soul), and I would be happy.
A suggestion.
If you have a good mechanic or diesel fitter that you know, ask them to come with you when you are looking at new vehicles. That sort of second opinion will be very valuable.
The new Hilux.
It is a well engineered vehicle, but is to expensive at the moment.
That's just my opinion for what it is worth.

800 is a lot for a 65 ah battery, especially when you don't even get it yet, does it even exist yet?

Love to have a closer look at what could be squeezed in there, optima maybe.

One thing I have learned over the years, vehicles never get easier to modify.
