Didn't notice till my partner told me after a test drive last week in the manual SR5 - there's no bonnet scoop so where does the intercooler get its air flow from?

I for one, love the new hilux. I was even offered $35000 trade in for my 2010 my11 sr5 dual cab. Extremely impressed with that offer. I may still take it yet. Heading back for a test drive tomorrow at my local dealer.

Pete, that is the key, you pay up front but well and truely get it back when u trade up....
Ps Roo just likes to complain....

It's now a front mount intercooler. So through the front grill. Fyi, the autos now come with a proper tranny cooler

I would still only buy a toyota hilux, but may consider a new ranger when the time comes to commit.

I was wondering if airflow to the front mount is going to be an issue once a bullbar, spotties, light bar, winch etc, etc are all thrown on.

Is it just me or is the shape of the gps unit ugly on the new hilux? Why couldnt they get one to fit neatly? It looks like some Chinese aftermarket add on? I was looking at trading my 2012 hilux for top of the line 2016 model but i really struggled to see any real difference between the two models that justify me spending 30k to trade up? I mainly use it for long country runs on bitumen and a city car for work. Not towing more than one tonne. So am I just being an old fart by not falling in love with the new one?

The prado with 1KZ had a top mount with an air ram under the bonnet in the shape of a double layered skin, kind of hard to explain but it apparently worked quite well.

A suggestion.
If you have a good mechanic or diesel fitter that you know, ask them to come with you when you are looking at new vehicles. That sort of second opinion will be very valuable.
The new Hilux.
It is a well engineered vehicle, but is to expensive at the moment.
That's just my opinion for what it is worth.

I would assume it would be ok, the sr5 I test drove had the bull bar on it. I guess only time will tell, if it is an issue.

Granted Johns attempted humor leaves much to be desired and he tends to waffle a bit, but you cant (in all honesty)discount valid points simply because you don't like the delivery. Its like saying Stephen Hawking is full of $hit cos he sounds like a Speak & Spell..

I wouldn't know if he is full of it or not, it may be the best review ever, still, I couldn't get through the first 30 seconds.

he somehow reviewed the hilux in May and it wasn't released until September so the review was based off rumors and sneak peeks... if he was a proper journo he would reserve judgement until he's actually driven the car ;)

Easy. Dont do a drive review. Which he's not, and looks will always be subjective anyway.
Its a case of playing the ball, not the man. Credit is given where due - ie reverse camera and six speed auto as STD, and the boot put in where necessary, ie - rear leaf suspension and drum brakes ion a 2016 60k + car. Stuff like that could be a deal breaker for some buyers. The auto diff lock on the SR - SR5 models is a big plus for me that lets me see past the antiquated brakes and suspension.

I like the car myself and have owned more Toyotas than you can poke a stick at. Would likely buy one if I came away smiling from a demo for the right money, despite the fact its more gutless than The Ranger, BT 50 and Colorado.
But it is what it is. Toyota just playing catch up with the other manufacturers.

And there lies the problem, for the first time in a long time Toyota have been out gunned on a new model, and not just by a little bit. The mere fact they are playing catch up instead of leading the field like they have for the last 20-30 years shows they have dropped the ball, I think the consumer is going to let them know it too.
