2016 New Generation Hilux 1KD-FTV (Overseas Model)

Postby paler on Tue, 08 Sep 2015 3:16 +0000

Hi, I have been waiting for the new Hilux Revo for some time. I just got the quote sheet and was surprised to notice that our market (Panama, Central America) is getting the 8th gen body with the current 1KD-FTV 3.0 D4D mated to a 5 speed A/T with a shifter.

The trucks looks just like the Hilux Revo inside and out, except we did not get the projector headlights or DRL´s and the bonnet has a scoop for the top mounted intercooler of the good ole 1KD. I did notice the longer flatter rear spring pack. I wonder if we are getting the new frame or just the new body mounted over the older frame.

The dealer has been clever and have dubbed this model ´´Hilux New Generation´´ and do not call it Hilux Revo as marketed in Thailand. The previous top of the line offering was the 2015 Hilux Vigo with the 1KD-FTV and 4 speed A/T (no shifter), so they usually adopt the Thai market´s name.

I was wondering this is happening in other markets or if anyone know the reason for this or are as puzzled as I am.

For the time being i am keeping the Vigo as I was interested in the new GD engine and 6 speed tranny.

Could be any number of factors, whats the fuel quality like in panama? tthe 1GD I think runs much higher pressure injectors so that could be one thing holding them back or they just got lazy and need to clear excess 1KD stock haha.

There are explanations

Either the diesel quality is low in your country.
They have excess 1KD in stock that they are trying to push out
They are waiting for the GD version to work properly in case there is a recall.

Also, these are the type that the toyota dealers are getting --if they buy from thailand sellers you get the new engine and lights, but you can always mod the LED lights

But i heard they did some mod on the 3.0 Liter for the revo

Has anyone heard what kind of clutch the new manual will have? Is it a standard clutch and pressure plate type like we have now or is it the upmarket dual mass flywheel type?
Cheers.

overseas markets often have different engines than australia. parts catalogue show that in some overseas markets current hilux had a 1kz & 5le engine as well as 2kd & some others

The KD engines would be in production until 2020. Hopefully by then ,all the bugs would have been worked out.

In the Bahamas we are getting the 1KD now finally too with the intercooler - does anyone know if this will still enable the upgraded tow capacity of the 2016 models? ie...is the engine able to handle it and the frame is upgraded?

I would have preferred the new 2.8 but I think another factor that is not mentioned here is the dealer compatibility - less training, parts, upgrades, etc going from the 2KD to 1KD than new gen?

We in South Africa are still waiting for the launch of the new lux! Latest from Toyota SA is that it will only be launched in march 2016, although they are being built locally. All these aussie hilux pics are really making us drool this side of the lake!

We do however get the 2.8 l and 2.4 l engines, but for some obscure reason we dont get the LED headlights which looks really good in my opinion, much beter than the normal halogens!!
