Changing D4D Glow Plugs

Hi guys,

I have a 2009 Hilux 3.0 D4D I need to change the glow plugs on. I've taken the intercooler off to see what I need to remove before I do this job.

It looks like the inlet manifold needs to come off to access the last glow plug. Anyone done this who can confirm? If I can get away without removing the inlet manifold that would be better.

Cheers Alan

Yes the manifold needs to be removed, Not a fun job. Also be aware the glow plugs may snap off inside the head so I would be extra sure they are actually the issue

Thanks for the reply Davo.

Do you know how long Glow plugs should last? I think my slow starting issue has now been resolved by replacing both batteries. I had already ordered the glow plugs and it's done 125k miles and is 12 years old so thought it would be a good time to change them.

You recommended just leaving them until they do fail? Thanks Alan

I have never heard of them failing. Not even sure they are activated unless the engine and ambient temps are really low.
