Checking my air con fresh air filter I found dead insects dust & possibly stains from our recent bush fire smoke the fabric was generally quite grey to black in color there was not any fractures or holes in the fabric, last time I checked they were about $70 genuine to replace so I set about cleaning it up first removing the larger particles with a blower then using a small toy paint brush to remove any grass seeds & other debris lodged in the lower folds, then came up with a good idea to remove the grey black stains still in it I used Nappy san laundry cleaner soaking it for about one hour fully sub merged in a tub of warm water & gently agitating it up & down a few times after removing it from the tub took it out & sprayed it with a garden hose nozzle gently till it ran clear then left it out in the sun to completely dry out I would say it is about 90% as clear as a new filter did not seem to harm the fabric in any way so it may be able to be cleaned many times this way. :D Cheers.

A lot of cabin filters are charcoal activated. Better to replace them than to wash.

A vehicle worth $60,000 deserves a new filter worth $40. Even the Toyota version only cost me $65. Just replace it.
