Air con filter mod

Postby fooman on Wed, 26 Sep 2007 2:35 +0000

Looks like no one has posted on this yet, so here I go.I've been advised by a few people to install a filter on the aircon intake of my 2005 hilux vigo in order to prolong the life of the aircon components. Its a very simple mod. The shop charged me MYR75 (abt AUD25) for parts (filter & cover) and installation. The aircon intake is located behind the glove compartment. Just open the glove compartment and squeeze the sides where it contacts the dash and it pops out. Here's the intake. You'll have to cut out the opening. Its very thin plastic and looks like it was made to be easily cut out.The filterInsert filter into intake opening. And snap in the cover. Its a very simple mod. The catches for the cover are already built in. You just have to cut out the hole and buy the cover. Makes me wonder why they left it out in the first place.

Air con filter mod

This is just a pollen filter to stop you from sneezing!

This doesnt protect any air-con components that Im aware of, only protects your sinus's if you got allergies.

Air con filter mod

Postby camwill69 on Wed, 26 Sep 2007 5:18 +0000

Hey Fooman,
This is standard on my 06 sr5. Just had a look.

But saying that anyone that has been driving with me should go out and clean there's as I just pulled mine out (filter) and it was full to the top of the ribs with dust and insects.

Might get a new one next service.

Air con filter mod

Postby 9W6VX on Wed, 26 Sep 2007 9:46 +0000

I installed mine just like fooman's about 6 months back.

Noticed that the air con blower speed dropped marginally but am happy that it will protect the aircon cooling coil.

It's a Nippondenso or Denso (ND) part number.

Eric, please post the part number for the filter and the cover if you still have the packaging with you.

Regards
Cheers

Air con filter mod

Postby camwill69 on Thu, 27 Sep 2007 5:15 +0000

MMMM,
Thats a strange one Steve9R. What month 06 is your's? And no part number on the filter or cover. May be with the other changes that came in August 06?????

Regards,
Camwill69

ps, They would protect the evaperator from dust and leaves building up. When condensation forms on them the dust would stick and hold the moisture thier for longer hence shortening the life of the evaperator.

Update,

I just changed my air coon filter as per the pictures posted by fooman above.

It was bloody dirty and filled with dust and dirt. I actually cleaned it about a 6 months back with a vacuum cleaner.

Tried vacuuming it again but it was just too dirty. New one costs about AUD$25.00

Recommend you check yours if you have this filter installed. You'd be surprised at the crap you can find there!

The part number I used for the replacement filter was different from the ones I posted last year.

The part number is:

Denso BT014520-26513D filter. The sticker says Denso Malaysia.

I'm not too sure if it is available in Australia but if not I'd be happy to help if anybody wants them.

I believe someone also got a standard air con filter of similar thickness but 4 times the size for a cheaper price and then cut it up into 4 bits and used them to replace it every few months... anyone good at using search should be able to find this and post here... im suffering from CBF so incapabable of hitting search and reading through....

Steve,

The filter seems very expensive.

If you want, I could get it for you and send ti by snail mail as it's light and small.

I think the filter costs AUD$25 or thereabout. AUD$70 seems bloody expensive.
