For those wanting to know a little more about the manifold clean out and instructions in terms of blocking them out for cleaning using the engines to dead centre I found this video on youtube. not covering as much detail as this thread has but there are some valuable points mentioned. 20+ mins long so definitely worth a watch!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VQ5s6mgK0h8

I'm planning on dropping a new genuine set of injectors in my 2008 hilux 370,xxxkms. But i figured while i've got the bonnet open it wouldn't hurt to have a gander at the other components that could be causing be dramas. I plan on dropping new injectors, and pipes first, dragging it to a local mechanic to get it coded. Then after on a seperate time gutting the intake and giving it a good scrub ( i'm sure it'll need it ) And as preventative measures in the future, I hear a lot of good talk for egr blanks, and a 2 micron fuel manager to seperate the water from fuel. Obviously prioritised and split through different times because I aint made of money hahah. This is all from research and multiple conversations with people online and around locally. Is there anything else i've missed? I'm planning on getting it all done before I commence uni because I won't have the time nor money and can't help but feel like the current injectors are ticking time bombs due to the values they are putting out. Worst being injector #1 -4.2mm3/stroke and standard being 0.9mm3/stroke. Heavy values, i know. All together in sum volume, sitting around 17mm3/stroke where I should be seeing 7mm3/stroke +/-4. I'm eager to get all new parts dropped in and get her running sweet again because this lack of acceleration, black smoke on get go and poor fuel consumption is getting to me. Any recommendations or advise for those that have done similar? It would be awesome for a little more input and insight on it.

Cheers

might be worth doing the egr and intake clean at the same time as your injectors and pipes as you need to remove the injector pipes to clean the intake anyway

^^X2^^

It should without being coded, it just might not run perfect. Mine has run just fine without being coded in the past.

what kind of consumption were you all getting before?

brett64b wrote:have question for all that have done egr/ manifold clean, after clean how is your fuel useage ? I have found i have more power as going up Oriumah hill central coast i could only get 115km and it would flatten out, i now can go 125 but find im using .7 litre more per 100ks. Has anyone had better consumption ?

is an increase in fuel consumption expected/normal with this EGR blanking plate 7mm modification?
if so, does it happen at normal driving speeds or only for more spirited driving?

Hard to say. I don’t drive it hard in general, it’s no race car. Some situations warrant a heavy foot.

Hey guys

It’s my first post on the forum so I’ll try and keep things simple.

I'm planning on doing the egr plate and clean out next weekend when my parts arrive and was wondering if anyone have a copy of the word doc that is mentioned in the oringinal post? I’m mainly just after the photos to help guide me through it.

Cheers

Gday guys quick question for those who have removed the intake manifold for cleaning. Can you get away with a 17mm crows foot, or do you need a special extension tool?

Crows foot with long socket extension from memory. My crows foot is 3/8 drive which makes getting in and around easier, but is the only 3/8 drive gear I own so had to buy the adapter and long extension.
Bit of a dumb way to go maybe but I’ll get more 3/8 gear eventually.

Is it necessary to replace all the gaskets if you do this process? Anyone know the Part Number to purchase them in a kit?

Thx

You may get away with not replacing them all but why take the risk? No kit as such (that I’m aware of) but put your VIN into partsouq.com and look through the exploded images.

Egr clean without removing everything

Is there a quicker and simple way or do you run the risk of ruining injectors etc?

There are some outfits offering a cleaning service without removing the manifold etc. Not really convincved that method will clean it out properly.

There are also some aerosol EGR cleaners you can purchase and use at every service as a preventative measure. Again not something that would clean everything once its got bad.

Once the manifold and EGR gets clogged up it can only be removed by hand, a lot of labour and nasty chemicals.

Proper clean = pulling it all apart and spend the time to clean it

Imagine what crap is inside your intake and then think about where it all gets pushed during an 'on car' clean. I trust it as much as I do snake oil. Buyer be very aware on that one!

Aerosol cleaners are available and have used them as a maintenance clean but they certainly aren't the magical cleaner some think they are.

One thing I noticed that was interesting was that the back port on the head closest to the fire wall was the oiliest and they gradually got dryer and more sooty towards the front of the motor. Also the butterfly in the intake manifold for the back port was bent or had a kink that stopped it from totally closing the next butterfly seemed very slightly bent and it's port was the dirtiest with a mix of oil and soot. The last two butterflies were straight and those ports were dry and sooty. Has anyone else noticed this with theirs , mine is a 2012.
Cheers Kev

I have the same as yours , the back port of the intake the butterfly is bent. And am not sure if that is normal or what?

My 2007 weren’t bent. Definitely a lot more muck at the back though.

Supercheap, Auto One, Repco and any number of other mobs will let you buy on line. Just ask the one you choose and you should be able to get a "Gasket kit" for the job that "SHOULD" contain all the gaskets / seals you'll need.
