How to clean the D4D intake and EGR sytem

One little tip that I haven't seen mentioned yet.
I blocked off the ends of the 2 coolant hoses that go to the EGR cooler using the large end of a couple of 3/8" drive socket extensions. Kept the coolant pipes upright on the cooler while handling it once removed and did not lose any coolant at all.
Didn't remove the fuel filter, but lifted it up out of it's mounting bracket then positioned it out of the way. Same with the power steering reservoir.

Hey everyone, just finished doing the intake and manifold clean. put everything back together, and now have a yellow check engine light up, code PO122 (throttle position sensor). All the plugs are back on correctly on the throttle body just before the egr. there is also a low traction light up, the cruise wont turn on and the trc off button doesn't work. The car is in limp mode and has very poor acceleration. Any one got any ideas on what I should be checking. Thanks for your help

You missed a plug uner the cooler on the right hand side, ill bet.

That web page is pretty thin on info. Don't waste your money, there's no way in hell spraying something into the intake while the engine is running is going to remove the crud. It takes a lot of time and effort to remove the crud by hand using tools.
Don't forget also that if this method does actually dislodge any of the crud, guess where it goes, into your engine.

I had this done by a guy in Bacchus Marsh (Vic) cost me $285 with a fuel filter change included. I can't say I noticed a huge difference but throttle response improved bit and a small increase in performance up steep inclines. I pulled the intercooler off before and after and although I had previously done a manual clean there was a small build up prior to the clean that was removed when the treatment was done.

Just did egr clean and all plugs etc back in and engine light has appeared ,don't know what seems to be the problem,any help on what could be the problem

Been searching for ages and buggered if I can find it, has anyone got it bookemarked?

I just rang toyota and said I wanted all the gasket from the inlet manifold up.

Hi guys
Just in the process of doing mine now. I'm after any tips on cleaning in side the head around the valves as it seems to resemble the in side of the intake. Does everyone just leave this area dirty ?. Is it safe to use cleaners in this area. Also there seems to be an Australia wide shortage of the gasket to go on the blanking plate, would it be ok to just put the original back on one side of the plate with exhaust silicon on the other side and if so which side for the gasket.

Most people get away with just having the gasket between the plate and the head. As for cleaning the head, a good strong vacuum and a screwdriver or pick. Just don't let any fall in!

There are no short cuts with fouling of the EGR system and intake.
You have to pull it a part and clean the components.





Please where gloves when you are doing this job. Don't touch the fouling with your skin.

The trickiest bit seems to be the head. But once you get the mangold off you don't want to leave the stuff you can see in the head. I'm still waiting for gaslit but I think I'll get the head as good as I can the get a chemical clean done. Blanking plate going in hpd catch can, maf and map filter. Hopefully makes a difference. Do you use carby cleaner or degreaser in the head roo ? also I found crc gasket remover works good on the carbon [emoji106]

I wouldn't be spraying any kind of liquid down the inlet ports as will only carry the crap further in and end up in the cylinder. Enough could even cause hydraulic lock in the cylinder and that would be bad!! A pick and a good strong vacuum is best I reckon.
