I have no issue getting it off with hardly any mess at all, just let the car sit for awhile it drains back.

Yep. if you just wait till its cold it will hardly leak... or if you just turn it a couple of turns then let it run into the casting under the oil filter and place a small cup under the run off hose... you can catch the bit that leaks out there... then once its all out, completely remove the filter and replace... Hope this helps... Cheers TOMUCH

No problem here, let it sit for a while, I get no mess.

I change the oil first thing in the morning , all the oil has well & truly run to the sump from the day before by then.

Hi, I thought engine oil was to be changed while it was still warmish. Am I out of the ark or misinformed?:-)

i think u can pull the sump plug out when warm, and remove the filler cap etc.
but i always wait some time before i actually remove the oil filter.

get a length of 6mm plastic tubing and attach it to the outlet at the bottom of the casing then run it to your oil pan, don't have it permanently attached though just keep it in the garage. remove the filter slowly

let it sit while ya have a few stubbies and then do the job.and as felix said put some tube on the fitting long enough to go down through the engine area to your tray and ur laughing!.
the engine will be still warm for hours.

Whenever draining oil on a car best to get to opertating temp then drain. Gets more of the oil and impurities out. Not real fun burning your hands but better for the car.

New Ryco oil filter has a one way valve in it so they claim. Changed one last Monday and not a drop when removing the oil filter. Car only sat for 10mins after driving and then I drained it. Attached the hose for any spillage but nothing spilt. Have a look for the new filter next time you at auto shop ;)

I fitted one of those brass/copper fittings to my drain hole yesterday when servicing my hilux that allows you to fit a tube over the end and has a spring loaded tab that you twist to open the sump oil to flow out...no more mess for me, Im over it.....
