Yeah there was a bit of chatter years ago about the pre filters adding undue stress on the fuel pump, but i havent heard of anyone having any problems... ive had a bit of dirt in my pre-filter.. but nothing major.. and certainly it would have been caught in the OEM filter..

so rather that extra filters it would just be better to change it more regularly

yes.. even though Toyota recommends that the fuel filter shouldnt be replaced, and isnt a serviceable part !

I replace mine every 10k, for less than $30 can't see a reason not too?

By the way, the buzzer sounding on your youtube video is hell annoying! Nobody could endure that ear piercing racket for long and it would FORCE them to shut the engine down Now all you need is an ignorance mod to deploy the steering wheel airbag for ignoring the buzzer

Where bouts did you tap into the accesory 12v, was it on the same wiring harness as the piezo was tapped into by any chance? If so which wire?

No.. it goes to your accessory +12v power supply feed.. if you dont have one that you've run seperately then just connect to the accessory +12v of your cigarette lighter and you'll be good to go..

honestly.. i wouldnt bother.. unless its got a water alarm on it.. then maybe.. otherwise you're better off with the mod and a normal pre-filter.. much cheaper..

Mod done today in about 15 min - thanks Steve. Just a note - if you do this mod and had turned off the seatbelt warning beep, you may have to do the seatbelt one again.

The only drama I have had is trying to test the mod has been done properly and found the cover of the fuel filter is REALLY tight to get off and I didn't want to break the housing. Is there a trick to getting it off or do I just need to put more hurt on it?

yeah the screw top on the filter is really tight..

i use a rubber oil filter remover to undo it if its too tight..

other way to test is to unplug the connector from the bottom of the filter and short the two wires together.. that'll send the buzzer off.. but dosent really tell you if the sensor in the filter is working.. hence why i did water..

Only reason you'll have to redo the seatbelt warning etc is if you disconnected the battery.. (which you probably should do )...

No, I didn't undo the battery, I followed your instructions. I thought it may have been because the dash/instrument unit had been unplugged the chime reset itself as a default when it was plugged back in.

Will try the filter tool and see how I go.

ahh yes.. (it was a while ago i did this ).. unplugging the dash will cause that to happen..

I tried to use the filter tool to test the float - and it was so tight that I broke one of the tabs securing the filter housing....

I ended up shorting out the sensor on the bottom of the filter and everything works fine - I have even gotten rid of a couple of my spare diodes by helping a couple of mates do the same mod.

I reckon you may have a heap of beer coming your way in the future Steve.

Is there a part number for the diodes? i may have missed it.

Just ask for a 1 Amp diode, and make sure the piezo you get isn't too loud.
