Ok, but what kind of block off? Apparently the 8mm hole one is pointless?
I can get the egr turned off in the ecu by a tuner near me.. I suppose that would help?

Why is it pointless? Many including myself run a plate with a 7mm home with excellent results! If you can get it turned off then do that.

A quick question though - there were brief mentions of the Ozbush Electronics solution to this but not many people seemed to have used it in the HiLux. Has anyone got any experiences, knowledge, etc. regarding it? Link for reference - http://ozbushelectronics.com.au/

Every time I've tried to get hold of that mob they tell me they are out of stock or just stuff me around. Put a plate in or get the egr turned off with a tune.

A good mate of mine has one, It works as advertised however dont expect any performance gains. He fitted if after the EGR cooler cracked so not possible to plate it.

I'm running a 7mm plate.

Cheers fellas - actually got in touch with them yesterday evening with some questions. Currently wondering whether it's worth combining a 7mm plate with their module or if that's a waste of time since their device enables you to do a full blank anyway.

Reasoning for 7mm plate vs. full blank: if I'm in the middle of nowhere and the device breaks (despite being mil. spec.), the 7mm plate should ensure I don't get a code once I re-reroute the vehicle wiring as per usual.

I've got to get the EGR all taken apart anyway due to EGR problems.

Also thinking that if you're one to consider a restrictor (or blank), you should have a way to clear codes whilst driving e.g. ScanGauge II, Techstream...Torque app. if it can clear codes.

I just purchased the oz bush electronics module and blanking plate today. When I get it installed and do a bit of driving with it over the next few weeks I'll report back. Maybe start a new thread if that suits the moderators.

Hi all, i have a 2014 3lr TD sr5 hilux, wanting to block off egr with blanking plate. Do you need to have any chip or do any other mod in order for the electronics in the car not to throw errors?

As long as it's got a 7mm hole in the blanking plate it should be fine.

Can anyone with a boost gauge confirm or not whether their restrictor or full blanking plate increased boost readings before and after install.

Didn't make a difference to max boost, thats done by the ecu. However I definitely noticed as did other people an increase in power in the bottom end. We can only guess it's because the ecu vents unwanted boost pressure back through the egr and now its mostly blocked the pressure can't get away as quick so boost pressure seems to be gained quicker. Probably just seems like theres more power, and there probably isn't but plenty of guys have reported this.

Ok thanks toyzx. I think so too ever so slightly. I've just noticed higher boost levels at lower rpm's but not really on WOT, so same as you.

What I want to know is this... keep answers simple... double check you've read the question properly:

If you ran your 1KD with an oil catch can for a long while, say 100,000km like I have, and only then you installed the EGR blanking plate with 7mm hole, have you experienced any problems?

Any problems whatsoever? I am only after "reasons why not too".

Not interested in unsupported claims of improved consumption, power, torque etc.

After all the arguements in the 20s and 30s the thread kind of meandered along and the debate stopped. Most guys seem to be doing it. I want to know if any of you did it, then took it out.

All I can say the 7mm hole causes no problems and it can't hurt to be in there, restricting egr flow into the intake.

I have had the ozbush module fitted and the EGR fully blanked for quite a while now, so far so good on a 2011 model.

I have blanked the EGR on the inlet and the outlet as there is plenty of history of the cooler cracking and leaking water into the combustion chamber writing off the engine.

I've been running a plate with a 7mm hole for a couple of years. Been try to get one of those modules for a long time, they always seem to never answer or are out of stock!

I checked my intake and it’s all sludged up. I’m going to run a catch can and leave the egr as standard. My reason is that it’s not a massive job to remove the intake every 100,000km, the hardest bit is removing soot that has oil in it, so if it’s just spot with no oil I don’t mind.
The other reason to leave the egr is that I do a lot of short trips and it helps the engine reach operating temps quicker, so overall is better for the motor.

well that is what the catch can does... remove the oil mist from the egr

Okay so I've read this thread from start to finish and what I gathered at the start of the thread was that the EGR Valve has a 8mm hole, so by putting a blanking plate with a 7mm hole isn't going to change much or anything at all? Am i missing something here? can someone put me in the right direction.
