EGR valve block off

Hey trends setters, I done mine today on a 2012 with the 7mm hole. No codes but it's got a bad whistle. I did read earlier in the thread someone else had the same issue but I can't find it again or how he fixed it. Can someone please help.
Thanks

whistle is part of the better breathing after fitting the plate, your turbo spins up faster and earlier causing the whistle... the plate allows better gas flow to the turbo and spins it up... all is ok

Thanks Gipdy, this is twice as loud as my Micky MTs and its on the blanking plate side of the engine not the turbo side. Dose the plate whistle as well?

No the whistle is most likely turbo but a leak on the inlet end of turbo possible but not likely. Whistles can be vacuum related but unlikely if you didn't disturb the inlet side. The plate has exhaust pressure behind it so not likely to whistle

Thanks again Gipsy, I did take the intercooler and a few pipes to clean them while I was there but it's definitely coming from the passenger side of the car.

OK look for a leaking vacuum line, check all lines removed and anything else you disturbed. The whistle is clear and as you accelerate and under load, but if it is loud then there may be a vacuum leak.

When do you get the whistle? It is normal as you accelerate from 1600 rpm but not at idle. Does the sound change under various throttle setting or is it constant?

Found it, air leak on the intake after the egr and before the elbow. I pinched the gasket so I just ultrablued it for now until I can get another one.
The for your help Gipsy you put me straight on the right track.

Has anyone had this problem or could it just be a vacuum hole somewhere.

At 2000rpms that valve will be on its way to fully closed, though I suspect a leak, but,

As the legends of this site say, throw it in the bin, fit a catch can or clean out your egr in another 2-5 years.

Good work.

If you guys ever have a loud whistle, it is an intake system leak.
Usually you might have forgotten to tighten those 2 10mm upside down bolts.
The sound will be at boost.
It's normal to have a light whistle with that awesome 7mm plate.

Soot with catch can, no plate, very dry & abrasive. Still blocked, but much goes through wearing your engine like running it with no air filter. This is what it looks like.

The plate reduces 95%+ of the damaging soot/carbon.
This greatly reduces valve & ring wear, keeps intake from blocking up, keep the oil, it lubricates & will help stick the tiny amount of soot that gets through after the plate.

WITH PLATE & no catch can

Keep it like new once it's cleaned & plate is in.

A handy hint is to buy a plate with the mounting holes slotted out so you don't have to pull the cooler all the way off. Or take to a normal one with a hacksaw and file like I did.

Ive read through most of this post and it seems like the blanking plate with the 7mm hole is the go and wont put the vehicle into limp mode.

But does the engine light come on? (2013 hilux)
Sorry if its been covered.. i may have missed it

I ordered a 7mm block plate which never arrived intime.

Had my motor apart for the egr/heat exchange and intake clean so i though bugger it.. and i made my own plate with a 7mm hole (took 5 min)

No engine light :D
can definitely hear the turbo spool up earlier
hilux has a new lease of life

Adding the plate was well worth it

After 40000kms of having the 7mm restriction fitted to a 2013 auto it finally threw the code P1251. Cleared yesterday and it has not returned. Am I worried? Not one bit. I maintain 3 hiluxs in my family and all of them have the 7mm plate, This being the 1st issue to date.

Pretty sure the P1251 code is an over boost code. Do you have a 3" exhaust? I took mine off and put the standard exhaust back on because I was having this issue. I've been running a 6mm plate for the last 10000kms on my 2012 sr
