There is lots of general info in this thread but no part numbers!

For those that are interested. I have 2008 SR. It had terrible brakes and felt like i had to apply loads of pressure to pedal to get it to pull up. Also, struggled to get it to lock up in the dry. I had genuine toyota pads front and rear. Neither the pads nor the rotor were glazed.

Replaced pads with QFR 4WD pads suited to my vehicle (no association). I looked into the various friction coefficients of the various pads out there suitable for a hilux. QFR 4WD seemed to have the highest I could find at 0.48. Didnt machine disks or anything because they looked ok.

A big improvement: heaps more initial bite, pulls up quicker, I have confidence in the pedal and can easily lock it up in the dry now.

IF this didnt work I was going to head down the Prado rotor/caliper path, but really happy.

I just did my 2010 auto SR5. The brakes were dangerous. I had to really stand on them to get it to pull up.

Just fitted:

RDA slotted / dimpled rotors
QFM 4WD pads
machined drums
new shoes
new wheel cylenders
adjusted the bias valve to suit 2" lift
fresh fluid

The difference is amazing. It actually stops now and I am no longer worried letting the wife drive the thing. I find myself braking with my toe instead of my whole foot.

Does anyone have part numbers for the QFM HPX pads or any QFM pads for a 2013 SR5 with VSC?

I have just had a hydraulic brake booster fitted. Supplied by Marks 4wd. Massive improvment.

What booster did ta fit??

I have a 2011 on stock suspension (facelift non vsc)
New rear cyclinders, shoes, drums (genuine)
New front dba t2 rotors and bendix 4WD pads
Rebuilt master cylinder and bled system
Couldn’t get it to pull up hard until the lspv is adjusted to the maximum! (Works fairly good now)

Pedal still feels like it’s bypassing somewhere, any ideas?
Wanna try get so I can wind the lspv back down to change with loads etc

Guys, I want to replace my rear brake shoes. Are genuine the best ones to go with, or are there other brands that are just as good or better? Toyota is quoting me ~$250 for 4 shoes.

Bendix, QFM are both good brands. I've been running QFM for a while now with no problems.

Genuine are good as well. I found that they lasted forever compared to the aftermarket brands but stopping performance seemed to be the compromise.

OK, dumb question. How do I know if I have VSC or not? I don't think I do. There's no traction control button or anything. It's a Jan 2010 SR KUN26 4x4. I assume the VSC lamp should illuminate on the instrument panel at key-on if I've got it? Is that correct?

VSC first came on some 2011, they had 17” rims. Didn’t come across the board until about 2014!model release late in 2013 calendar year or something like that.
The 2012 SR’s optioned with VSC got flares and wider wheels due to the bigger brakes that went with stability control. But for later SR’s they fit from memory 17x6 steel rims when it became standard, or something like that.

Yep - 16" no VSC
Other than the above and what you have correctly pointed out regarding dash light and button you can also measure your rotor size

Prado120 front brakes for reference have 338mm brake rotor diameter

FJ Cruiser and Hilux's equipped with VSC have 319mm x 28mm brake rotor diameter/thickness

You also have to factor in the larger caliper size which hangs out ontop of the rotor diameter.

Keep us updated. keen to see if your 16's fit....but you need to specify if your running the larger brakes or not.

Hmm good question. It doesn't appear so on the QFM website.

Yeah, I couldn't find any reference to shoes anywhere. I've ordered QFM pads and Bendix shoes.

Sorry for all the questions. To save me a call to Toyota does anyone know the part number for the C-washer that needs to be replaced when changing the rear brake shoes? The part reference sites refer to it as 47601C but that's not a proper part number and seems to refer to a range of different part numbers.

Edit: I couldn't find an answer so I found the time to go into Toyota and ask. The c-washer is a region specific part and isn't included in Australian model KUN26s of my vintage. So I don't need them. On further inspection this diagram http://toyotamarket.ru/gr/672370/073/2/4706/1/ shows some region specific parts and the c-washer isn't in the "ARL" list. I didn't realise what that list was until I spoke to Toyota, though.
