Hi all,
I have been towing a 2t boat (yes that's what the weighbridge said)which I built last year around & had enough of two feet standing on the pedal to stop the show. car is an 06 sr5 auto, 160k, pedders gear in the front, rear springs original
couldn't even get the abs to work on the tar
bit of research on here & I have done the following,
new bendix hybrid pads
new rda slotted rotors
new Hel braided lines
new dual booster supplied by forum member hiluxy(very good to deal with & knowledgeable) many thanks to him
check/adjust rears which were only 10k old & ok
had done a flush as part of 160k sevice anyway
results nothing short of amazing
did the rotors etc first while waiting for the booster to turn up & this alone was a huge improvement, half the pedal travel & pressure required & abs works on tar in a crash stop, but still nearly standing on pedal
new booster fitted, very simple with easy instructions included & it just got better.
same pedal travel but now is just a squeeze for a crash stop, boat trailer has shiny discs as evidence they are working better due to the increased stopping power of car
cost less than $700 for the whole lot & my time (diesel mechanic, marine engineer amongst other things)
well worth the time & effort & this should be one of the standard mods to a hilux after changing factory suspension & crap h/t tyres
couldn't fit prado gear as I only have 15"wheels & am quite happy with the 31" goody's
alternative was fitting $3500 brakes to trailer which do not last & require constant maintenance
other alternative is a 200 series but wouldn't have the boat....... can wait
couple of unrelated things, serviced the tranny, fitted an auto cooler & now has eliminated most of the hunting between 3rd & 4th, holds 4th at 100km easily
fitted a 3" berklee exhaust, low & mid range much better, more free revving, not too loud but still runs out of breath topend, thinking of a roo systems chip next, mainly want to be able to pass jayco roadblocks & road trains without needing 2km of straight road to do it......
economy has been 13l/100km since I've had it, between 16-18 towing
cheers
Geoff
