Yep, file away. I had to do the same thing - that was a fun way to kill my arm.

Does anyone have a problem with squeaking after doing this mod??

If i have passengers or a few bags on the seats it squeaks like crazy! I put some electrical tape around the catch but that wore through pretty fast

I was actually quite disappointed with the outcome of this mod, yes it does give extra storage space but what actually can you fit in there? I first put two maxxtrax behind the seats I thought it would be awesome to hide them away but then makes it so uncomfortable for passengers in the rear. I even tried other items but still there just isn't as much room as you would like, when you do have sizeable objects behind the seat It makes it hard to get to the under seat storage where I have my fuseboard for my aux battery. I basically now just use it to keep maps, rope and first aid kits.

I mounted a reasonably sized air compressor back there along with the hose (the thumper one). Got jumper leads stored, first aid kit and tyre puncture repair kit.

It depends on how you do it i guess - aside from the obvious of putting it on the floor, if you do what others did and put netting on the back of the seat or whatever, then you can put stuff securely there as well.

I just did this mod, and 42mm did the trick for me. Only took about thirty minutes. I think I am going to put two batteries, and a D250s behind the seat.

Want to do this mod to my "HERLUX" today, but unsure on how to get the seat forward to begin with to shorten the bracket.
Any help would be appreciated :)

You need to undo the bottom 4 bolts first then lift the whole seat up to unlatch it.

Its easier to work on if you take the whole seat out of the car.

Thought id update this thread and say i added this mod to my lux, cut so it was 45mm left, with this you have to press and pull slightly harder on it to fold it down or put it in place.
Will be fitting a subwoofer enclosure there :)

Such a good and simple mod. Not sure if it’s already been said by for anyone having trouble with 42mm not being quite right rather than loosing the will to live filing away you can just move the locating u rings with an adjustable. Mine were set at different heights anyway so 42mm turned out to be a little too much off on one side but easily fixed by folding the bracket up. Obviously don’t want to be bending them back and forth constantly and weakening.
Also as for squeaking I just popped a liberal amount of silicone grease on the hooks. Looked like it already had quite a bit of grease on there from factory.
