The way its designed is probably to keep the seat in position when there are no straps or people holding it down. If there are baby capsules/Child seats attached over the top of the seat then next to nothing will move the seat without the straps breaking. And it does make it so much easier to get to those mounting points.

hey, want to do this mod but just want to recap how too.
Unbolt the 4 bolts that hold seat base down.
Lift seat to 45 deg and it should fall out. (i have 08)
Cut hooks off the back of seat so that about 40mm remains.
Then if i understand corrctly it should just fold back into position and to fold up and down, just pull the strap as before.
Is this correct?
Cheers

Yeah mate thats correct. once your finished, just pull the strap and lift the bottom seat to about 45 deg then the top half should be able to fall forward.

hey, did this mod today. Peice of cake. Hardest part was removing the seat in the first place.
Now have a place to store the rifles.
Cheers to the brains behind this

Guys, If there is actually 14mm left of meat in the slot, then I would say that the failure mode hasnt changed. It will still fail through the catch as opposed to the bracket and if the bracket is the weakest link (not my gut feeling) thn it will still fail right up in the crease of the bracket.

I think that the mod doesnt affect safety at all... IF... there is still the 14mm of meat in the bracket that I have read here. IN that instance, the meat is unstressed, so will not affect failure.

hey guys,

Did this mod for the folding seat this afternoon, only took 15 minutes. The 42mm was to much to leave on my ute as it still catches, will anlge it or trim up tomorrow.

Thanks for the idea i always though of doing it, didnt think it would be so easy.

Cheers

Jack,
You have to unbolt the seat, 2 bolts either side under the plastic

Well done mind today, i lest a little bit of meat on it and left about 45-47mm on the hook! Though still does the same job and certainly opens more room...
Just getting ready for if i decide to go ahead and get the water bladder....

EDIT: drove to work today, and the back seat has stopped creaking since i preformed the mod :D .
So not sure what i did, maybe it was me jamming it back into position when i was putting everything back together, but its gone!!

Steve9R,

Thanks for the information and the pics. Did this to my (2008 SR5 Dual) this morning. Cut at 42mm as per pics, and it works fine. I rounded the corner with a file a little, and it takes a yank to get the seat to come forward, so you need to lift with one arm, yank at the appropriate time with the other.

A great, quick and easy modification that begs the question: why not like this from new?

Cheers,

Simon
