Folding back seat mod - For ALL dual cabs

Folding back seat mod - For ALL dual cabs

Postby Steve9R on Mon, 11 May 2009 8:09 +0000

Thanks to tomi004 and maricio for the original ideas, this is a new thread as requested.. This would have to be the easiest, cheapest and best mod ALL dual cab owners can do..

So... i spent about an hour and measured up the distances etc on my SR5 to make it easier for everyone..

I spent a fair bit of time on the first one to get it just right..

I even took a video of it working, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ojjwht-0SFk

the video explains it better, but.. the crux of it is described in this photo.. steel ruler pushed in hard up the slot (calm down maxx!).. then leave exactly 42mm on the bracket.. i wouldnt make it anymore than that, but there is still about 14mm of bracket holding the seat in place once its locked in..

Steve
would it be a benefit to cut at angle like above or stick with your straight cut
Have my seat out and ready to cut am undecided as of yet

Drew:

The bracket, with angle is in my truck, I have decided cut in angle for ensure better guide for the brakets. Is working so good (both ways, works)

Personal preference mate..

with a square cut you'll have more steel on the bracket holding the seat in, the angled cut would make it easier to close, but less steel behind the bracket..

both ways works.. cut it square, you can always shave a small corner off if you have trouble closing it..

Great mod guys!!!

I saw this thread, and did mine today!!! Piece of cake.

Now the question is, what to do with my newly found space?

Thanks again to all that contributed to this mod being discovered.

hehe.. mines already almost full.. so far ive got in there : big rubber mud mads for the front floors / snatch strap / shackles / tow strap / tow bar and hitch receiver / picnic blanket .. and still got more space :)

I dont reckon anyone with a dual cab has said that before !!

Hi Fellas, Oldman here, Is this mod safe ? What if you have child seat in the back as they are bolted over the back seat to the floor ?

IMHO
seat still isn't going to go anywhere unless you pull lower strap to lift bottom up then top releases as it moves upwards and folds forward

Cut it straight and fine tune with a shifter by bending the U shaped rods that the hooks lock onto.
The pumper 30 06 and the Kemen shotty are happy again. they did not enjoy the SR5 till now.
Thanks again to the clever people.

I don't think this one is going to work for me, having a sub in the back doesn't allow the back seat to move when I try and flip the bottom seat up, it will only open up 1/4 the way but the back section doesn't move.. Oh well :)

I havn't done the mod yet as I am not sure what I will use it for, give me some inspirational ideas :)

I reckon if Ivan Milat did it he would store backpacks in there

you could hide your weapons there and the coppers would never look as we all know that hilux rear seats dont fold down....LOL ;)

in a practical sense, you could fit a water tank there, one of those slim line ones.

recovery gear, jumpstart cables, first aid kit.....Imm sure you could squeeze on of your kids in there if you try hard enough as punishment for being a pain on those long road trips....

imagine if someone made a slimline esky or fridge to fit in the back there.....you could pile up the back with beer of bourbon cans one or two rows deep and 5 rows high...woo hoo

getting carried away now.

There is not a super amount of room available in depth i mean, no where near as much as old shape hilux had, so maybe water tank or esky could be outa the question
i am still trying to figure out what i am goin to put there

I like the watertank idea if it fits?? .......... I already put my kids in there although one of them is getting wire marks on his face from the back of the seat so he might be getting too big for the 'third row'

or this one - Tank is 1090 wide x 670 high x 70 deep
