Hi Guys and Gals, so I have been through all 23 pages and can only find a couple bits talking about storage behind and folding the seat up.
I have a 2012 SR5, I want to do this mod to be able to use the room for a little storage but will I be able to fold the seat up and keep it up after?
I use the flat base of the cab as the fridge platform...

There was a sub behind the seat and I couldn't fold it up so I had to remove the seat and remove the sub...
So again my question if I perform the mod and have a net there will i still be able to keep the seat in the up position when needed?

Yes.
Strap.
Yes.

Fold the base up and keep the base in the up position? I assume you are talking about the base not the back?
When the base is up, you use the strap that you pull on to release it, to secure it in the up position. This is the same as if the seat was not modified, nothing changes in that regard.

If you could not fold the seat base up, perhaps the strap in the middle of the seat, underneath, was not protruding enough for you to be able to yank on it to engage the release catch? When you lift the seat base, it is a bit of fussing about to get all the seat belts up so they will be where they should when you lower it back down; equally the release strap under the seat base at the front, facing the center console, often swings underneath the seat as you lower it. It is this strap that you also use to keep the base in the up position. This is the same with the 2009 SR5 I had and my current 2010 SR.

The modification does nothing to the base, it works as it always did, it is about making the back section able to fold down instead of remaining up right. As has been answered before, the back still locks into place (upright) as it always did, after the modification.

If you thought you could fold the seat back, not the base, to be able to modify it, then no. You have to unbolt the lot to be able to do the the modification to the seat back, not the base.

My question, with the new mod and gear behind the seat will i still be able to secure the base in the upright position?

I ask this due to having a sub behind it before the mod and I couldn't even lift my base up and lock it up with the strap.

Simple answer, don't jam too much crap into the net. A speaker box is solid and has no give, random articles in a net, would probably have a bit of give.

I would suggest that perhaps the sub was such a tight fit that it stopped the seat base and back from moving. The seat back needs to move a little too. Does the seat base now lift with the sub removed?

With the net and gear, if it is not so much that the seat back will still lock into upright position and it does not hang so low and bulk out enough to foul the seat base, then it should still fold up, should it not?
If you can fold the seat base up, I do not see why it could not be locked in the upright position with the strap.

did this mod a while ago, but it wasnt until i picked up some maxtrax at last week's caravan and and camping show that i decided to set it up properly. some elastic cargo straps from bunnings (90 and 60cm ones) later and i ended up with this:

stores maxtrax, compressor hose, snatch, shackles, tow rope and a random bit of rope.
The problem with not finishing what i start is

Really happy to have found this post. Will remove the rear seat in my MY16 Hilux this weekend, and see how if anything has changed back there. Would be good if the 60/40 split seats does not make things too hard. Hopefully the seat will lift sufficiently if I lift half the bottom.

I did this mod earlier this year. I did a straight cut, reinstalled the seat, and maate what a difference. This mod clips in easy on the rear hooks, and solid as a rock. Best thing I did for a long time. extra room to place articles, as well as get to the compressor to fit the air line. It also makes it easier to remove the complete rear seat to fit my custom made tubs when going away to a period of time.
