Just completed the rear seat mod today, I did the Russian way first but found that the seat rattled when in seating position, so then did it old school with the grinder, worked perfect! Great mod!

So do u remove and leave out the two seat bolts on each corner of the seat base? So the only things holding seat in is the base hook and the back two hooks?

No. You only take the bolts out to get the back folded down to start the mod.

Hello Jesse

A russian guy talked about how they 'bend' the Us attached to the back wall instead of cutting the hooks that attach to them :o

I have had the problem of the seat falling when I tried to pack far too much in the bottom, I now have my maxtrax there ( see photo above ).

You can probably bend the Us up a bit if you have cut off too much of the hook :)

Are you sure that the seat is clicking back onto the hooks?

You need to raise the bench up to about 45degrees, then push the top all the way back, try holding it back as you let the bench down.

It might be that you haven't cut enough off.

When i done my mod i measured to 45mm, then used an angle grinder.

Steve9R wrote:I even took a video of it working, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ojjwht-0SFk

the video explains it better, but.. the crux of it is described in this photo.. steel ruler pushed in hard up the slot (calm down maxx!).. then leave exactly 42mm on the bracket.. i wouldnt make it anymore than that, but there is still about 14mm of bracket holding the seat in place once its locked in..

That fr#@*& noise drives me mad on my 2012 Sr, have gotten out several times first time I heard it to see what was loose in the back.

I know the noise (07 SR) I did it before I did the mod and still does now .. Only ever did it with someone in the back .. Sounds like noisy springs to me .. If the back isn't locked in correct it normally clunks not squeak..
Are yours carpeted?
Mine isn't not sure if it does it in carpeted ones

Thanks for the idea

I made this vid to help get my head around the mod. Didn't want to just take to my 2 day old ute with a grinder without better understanding how it works.

Sweet video, i want to install the Soundstream 13" Stealth sub + amp. But in saying that, i don't need to access it often at all, so still not sure about doing the mod

Guys, i get it too, 08 SR, pretty sure that its the hook (shown above) sliding metal on metal against the bar it latches onto. Just that little bit of sideways movement. Bit of rubber or something in there might help?
