Folding back seat mod - For ALL dual cabs

Did this mod to my 2011 SR last weekend. Great to have a little extra storage for ropes, straps etc. Was easier than thought with it lifting and returning very smoothly.

I know heaps of guys have said it but I can't believe I've waited this long to do this. So handy getting a bunch of my gear behind the seat rather than the back floor or bouncing round the tray. It should come standard!
Why not? Have a go!
If all fails it's only money...

Awesome mod to do only problem I had was I snapped a bolt undoing the seat. And my old man had a spare cargo net out of his f6 ute so I zip tied it straight in

Works a treat in a 2014 SR5, left it at 43mm.

Sorry for the very basic question.

Last dual cab had the mod but new one doesn't.

Whats the secret to folding down the seat to make the cut? i can't unlock it to even get the grinder in to do the mod?

do i need to remove the seat all together or is there a little trick i am missing?

sorry for noobie question.

Need to remove the seat, lift the bottom half of the seat up, and unbolt the bolts holding it in place, and then lift the whole seat up and out.
Cheers,
Jay

Hey mate what are your thoughts about the sub? Sound quality OK? I just fitted the same sub in the same spot last night but haven't fitted the amp yet.

I've already done the mod to the back seat and man what a difference it makes (I'm always fitting/removing child seats)

hey mate

I can only suggest you use a lot of brackets and good screws as mine have rattled loose a few times ... and makes a horrible noise ..
i do find the sub noise is rather TINNY and echos off the rear of the cab metal .... im thinking about putting some sound foam stuff to help with that noise... other then that i like it ...

Hey guys, this is an awesome and simple mod. Just dont take too much off. I found it easier to take off a little less, so left about 42.5-43mm, then filed it down the rest of the way until it worked. And an extra little handy tip wound be to round the edges a bit with the file so it go's on and off easier. Thanks guys.

2013 Hilux - hook was a bit different and had rubber glued on booth sides. cut the rubber with a blade and then cut through the hooks at around 43mm. works like a charm. longest part was getting all the tools together!

Like all have said before an easy and very useful job - hardest part getting the seat out in the first place - just got to get the angle of the dangle right so to speak. Does anyone know how the small buckle on the middle seat belt comes apart ( 2014 model ) ? Tried a couple of things and no go - jeez even consulted the manual and still no good. I ended up unbolting it form the floor to fit the seat cover - didn't need to do anything with it for the seat mod as I did the cutting with the seat still in the vehicle.

Cheers Snelly

Thanks everyone who has contributed.

Did this today, if you don't include the time it took to go get a decent blade for the hacksaw it would've only been a half hour job!

Can passengers feel things sticking into their back when riding in the back? Or is there plenty of padding?

Fixa4377 you wont feel any difference as nothing has been changed to the seat padding. Just chop away mate it's worth it!!

Hi just wondering with the seat mod can it still be used as factory standard (base lifts up and stays up) or does the back always come down?

Reason is i use it for work car and like the base lifting up creating room for fridge and tool box.

Base will still stay up as the rear actually comes up and back down again to lock in
