Excellent, thanks Jaybags. Just did it, and without a net or anything it won't shut with my booger behind it.. seems like its too thick or sum.. So going to have to play with that a bit..

If not I'd better read the 21 pages to see what you people keep in there..

Silly question, can you do this for an extracab? Is there any secret space behind the extracab rear seats?

Thanks

I don't know if there's an award for best use of the backseat mod, but I reckon I should win!
Now have permanent storage for a 42" DK booger, 2 sets of Churchill Fins, a 3/2 steamer and a towel.
No more driving past good waves wishing I had my board with me. No more not being able to take my booger on holidays due to lack of space. Excellent.
Much thanks to the people who thought this mod up.

Got no clue if a photo's showing up, because I'm IT illiterate.

Hey guys, how does this mod go with the 2014 SR5 with the normal seat belt in the middle? Can it still be done? Cheers

Can anyone help with the previous post. I have not picked up my Hilux as yet, but am very curious also if this mod will work with the 2014 lap sash seat belt in the middle??

Cheers

Thanks guys for this mod. Had to fit some seat covers to the rear today and whilst the seat was out, out came the hacksaw, off came the brackets. Now all i have to do is work out what i will put behind there.

Awesome mod. Did it at 44mm without any issues, took just on ten minutes.

However have found on the 2014 SR5 they've stolen a heap of the otherwise free space by fitting a plastic panel. I can still fit what I need back there, for now.... Will have to look at removing the offending plastic later on down the track.

Can someone shed some light on a question I have, the carpet on the back wall, is that a standard feature on an SR5 or and overseas feature or something? I have an SR and the carpeted back wall looks nicer
Thanks

i must be dumb, but I've had a look at my dual cab rear seat, and I can't see a way to get the back out. it has two lugs on the cab which seem to have hooks on the seat back hooked over them as in the photos. but how do I get the seat back out. is there a release leaver or button somewhere or does it entail undoing bolts to remove it. any info appreciated as I have to remove mine to fit seat covers.
cheers, dave.

Undo the 4 bolts holding it to the floor and slide the backrest up a few inches. It should come free after that.

Wow thanks so much guys for this. It is a freakin awesome mod.
It took me longer to take photos of the process than it took for me to make the mods!

The hooks took a little lifting of the seats and jiggling to release from the loops on the back wall.

Lift bottom seat, undo the four floor bolts, lift and jiggle, pull entire seat out,
chop hooks off the top of the rear seat leaving 42mm behind, put back in ute with both in upright position, there is a tab on the floor mount to help the seat bracket align/sit against it, put four bolts back in,
lift bottom seat until rear is lifted as high as it will go, push top seat back over the rear wall loops,
start lowering bottom seat, grab all the seat belts out, let bottom seat lock down,
back seat is firmly locked in place as it comes down.

To flip the back seat down:
pull the floor strap to release the bottom seat, lift until the rear seat is as high as it will go, pull top of back seat forward, lower both to the floor. It is now that easy!

The bottom seat release strap will still hold both seats in the upright position.
The rear section of the seat still locks into position when upright.
It all still works as it should, it is just you are now able to flip the rear section down when you want to access the area behind it.

So easy to mod and so brilliant; I can't think of why someone would not do it.
Thanks again newhilux community! :D

I did it in my 14 sr and I'm not as thrilled as others, its a pain with the middle seatbelt and I cant work out how to unclip the bottom of the middle seatbelt. Also there isn't as much room as I thought behind there.

Its done now but I will probably never use it.

I do love how the bottom of the seats fold up though, compared to my 89 dual cab its a big improvement.

Nope, not much space at all but enough for maxtrax to always have em handy & not forget them at home or have them pinched while at the shops.......

Which cargo net are ppl using? Size? I have checked supercrap but didn't find anything really suitable. After something similar to what Benji Edge posted above to put as much of my recovery gear behind there as i can

I guess it's better for the earlier models with the lap seat belt

I got my net from Supercheap today. The pack says PLU 119533. Code = BEN50100.
It's a SCA brand called a "Trunk Net"

Going to do the mod on the weekend :D
