What should I use to fix my front grille?

What should I use to fix my front grille?

Postby William_Foster on Tue, 07 Jul 2020 8:33 +0000

I had bit of an accident and broke one of the vertical vanes on the front grille of my 2013 SR5. Given the horrendous cost of the original replacement part, until I can find a second-hand part I am looking to repair the break if possible. I won't be able to plastic weld the break given the small size and location of the parts involved, and given that I am not sure what type of plastic the part is made off I am not sure what type of glue I would need to attempt a repair. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated?

Thanks for the feedback, unfortunately the cable ties won't work to hold the piece in place. It had a cable tie tied to it which is what caused the breakage; which I need to reconnect. Hopefully someone has feedback on what type of glue I can use to hold the piece, I understand that some automotive plastics don't hold with some types of glue (at least that is what google told me).

Hi William. Ive found JB Weld to be good with plastics. Either JB Kwick - 5 minute quick bond , or original 24hr cure should do the job. If you cant source JB products any other 2 pack epoxy should hold that

Thanks for the feedback Dave and DB, I'll do some online shopping and see if I can get the JB Weld and if that fails I'll get the soldering iron out.

Thanks DB, it only took nearly a month for the glue to arrive; but it has and it worked :)

:o The post up here has been horrendously slow. Took nearly 3 weeks for a small Express item to arrive a couple months back.
Glad the JB did the trick. I keep some kwick weld in my canopy when out bush for those small running repairs
