Door "friction" slides???

No idea what they are actually called but the "door holder thingys" (technical term) - the plastic friction slide things that are supposed to hold the door open (or wherever it is opened to) on my doors are completely useless. Won't hold the door at all.
Has anyone looked into a mod or fix for this? Must be a common complaint?

I wouldn't say its broken, at least nothing appears to be broken and they still stop the doors from opening any further than they are supposed to, they just have no friction or the detents don't seem to be able to cope with the weight of the door so won't hold the doors from swinging in the breeze or when parked on even the slighted hill. Not just the drivers door either. All four of them are practically useless.

Pull one out, give it a good clean and inspect. Probably the spring clamps are loose/soft/worn?
If you then decide to modify, add pics. :)

They seem to be nylon, so may not need extra lube? Dunno. Mine are good, so I'm not touchin' them.

I jam a plastic water bottle in the hinge gap to stop it slamming shut
