howdee folks,

I need to remove my flat tray on my ute to clean it up and repaint it (steel). however Iam having problems working out how to remove the bolts on the chassis closest to the cab ie front. all the others are OK, 3 mounts per side. I can't seem to get a spanner in the mount to hold the head so I can lossen it. have tried grinding down an open ender but it becomes to loose to hold the head when undoing it. yes they are a bit rusty and I have been lubricating the bolts to try and help but no go. hmm my first attempt at working on a tray ain't so great even thou it looks easy. would love some ideas on how to hold my nasty head, so to speak?

Pics would help, I'm guessing that you can get on the nut but can stop the bolt head spinning? Can you get a rattle gun on it? You could also tac weld the bolt head to the Mount or wedge a big screwdriver between the flat of the bolt head and the Mount?

thanks heaps for quick response. here is a pic of the mount https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B7N6ySaRdv9_NXBtX0RRZFR2Tmc/view?usp=docslist_api I can access the bolt head but not the 19mm nut which is inside the mount. I do not have a welder, but will try the screwdriver suggestion in the morning, as it is a tad dark and cold outside here in the deep south (tas). ta heaps

Ratchet spanner! It's time to buy a set, a good set.

I feel your pain mine where difficult the first time. On my third tub in 4 years, cheaper than panel beating.

Nah unfortunately nut not welded, and a 19mm spanner won't fit in the gap to get to the nut. I shall try wedging something in there, but it will be tough as they are a bit seized. Thanks for suggestions thus far. I shall sleep on it and dream of rust free Ute's :)

Id say the tacks have come off nut. Got a stick welder, might get some in there and the heat will help it too.

Removed that one on my 2009 and 2014 double cab 4x4 recently. Both were welded.... Seems yours may have been loose. Suggest ratchet for the top and get a closed end 19 spanner, bend under the bolt and fit on to the loose nut. Best angle will be from the tray side opening. Both were a pain on the gas tank left side for me as removal of the flare and shield was only way I found it workable. Glad thats the last 2 body lifts I have to do for now
