Cleaning mud off your Hilux?

Cleaning mud off your Hilux?

Postby jaybags on Tue, 25 Mar 2014 10:10 +0000

Does anyone have any tips based on cleaning the mud off your car, and from under the car?

I spent hours under the car after the last trip with a Karcher getting all the mud off from under the car until what I thought was gone. Weeks later and i'm still finding hints of mud and clumps.

Is this the usual for most people, or does someone have some handy cleaning tip or products to help wash the mud off?

Don't mind the car getting dirty, but it's nice to have it clean when it's on the road at least. 8-)
Cheers,
Jay

The price you pay for going in the mud mate.
I put a sprinkler under mine for a while when I get home but always find mud after a clean

with motorbikes we spray them with silicone spray before we take them out
you could spray the underside of your car before you take it out next time - see what difference it makes
I know that doesn't help after the event

i have two car ramps at home that i drive the front end up on, so at least i can roll my semi-fat-arse under there a bit easier.

That said i avoid mud these days! ... only took a few times splashing around in the stuff to realise it basically doesn't do anything constructive, except cost money and take forever to clean!

I still occasionally find little pebbles coming out of my chassis from a couple of muddy nights :D

The sprinkler ideas actually pretty good, enough to soften half of it over time

Haha, i'll cop that one, though it does dig into valuable beer drinking time. 8-)

Karcher do an attachment for $150. I haven't tried it but looked ok from the ads. Bunnings sell them.

Dude I buy a 5l bottle of Lennox mx4 cost you about $80. Spray that under Neath. Lubes, protects doesn't wash off with water but gets mud off easier.

usually after a good days mudding il come home and hit it with the karcher for about a good hour, top to bottom as much of the thick crap i can get off cause it virtually costs me nothing to do so, then its a case of a strong mix of truckwash and water and i spray the entire car top to bottom with it i mix it in a garden sprayer bottle (5litres) let it sit for 2-5 minutes then karcher it all off,
after that its a case of give the paint work a good soapy clean and then when its dry coat the underside with a fresh coat of tire shine ;) stuff works a treat helps prevent the grit from sticking hard.. and i innox the underside once every 3 or 4 months to prevent rust :)

Pay the little kid next door $10. They crawl under and pull it all off and clean it.

this could be seen as child labour but i see it as extra beer time

Theyre reasonably priced. Just make sure you get the wash and wax one. I tried one years ago and it was like an acid wash. Cleaned really well but stripped all the polish from the paint. Took about 3 polishes to get any shine back.

Chemtech make the one I've used. CT18 is the industrial one. CT20 I think is the better one.

I'd normally use meguiars for a normal wash but it's just so expensive when you're covered in mud.

I always use CT-18 on mine. Keep your eye out for supercheap auto and repco sales. They seem to take turns in having selling it for half price.
I don't use a pressure cleaner under the car, just the normal hose. Practice makes perfect though mate. You'll learn where the mud hides before too long.

Yes I agree. It's all a matter of finding where the mud hides. I use a garden hose instead combined with very very high ramps that I drive the from onto. The hose works better I reckon cause most mud is hidden and a karcher cannot reach so it's a matter of high volume of water to wash it off
cheers
