Interior Panel & Dash Removal

Interior Panel & Dash Removal

Postby CraigB on Sun, 19 Jan 2014 8:08 +0000

EDIT: changed title - so others (and me again :D ) can post questions about removing interior coverings, dash etc.

Ok,

this has to go in the "special" section... :?

I've done a fair bit of work to my Hilux, but how the F#$% do we undo that front clip that holds on the front L & R kick panel? I can't figure....the side two just pull off, but the one attached the firewall....?

I try to be careful and considered... don't wanna break anything...like The Hulk

Yep, it's one of those plastic "nuts" that you undo like any other nut, but can just push straight on, no need to do it up.

It has two sets of clips either side. If need be, you can pry it off with a screwdriver. Otherwise pretty easy to just pull off.

has anyone tried (or needed to) to fully remove the dash in a 2009 sr5??
my aircon/heater - face/feet/demist selector has jammed on demist. i have done a partial dash removal and checked the cable, its fine, its either the control box or something has slid down the vent from the top and is jammed.
either way, i asked a stealership and they quoted me about 6 hours to do the job, at $110 an hour  i politely declined.

does it really take that long?
do i need to remove the A pillars on each side to get to dash screws?
how do i NOT set the passenger side dash air bag off (simple as disconnecting battery?) ?

not in a hurry to do this, but any tips would be greatly appreciated….

In most cars that job is a lot easier than it looks, I have never done a hilux but lots of others.

Usually just have to drop the steering column. The whole dash is put in fully assembled, or close to it, by robots so it should come out fully assembled too. It is all the stuff behind the dash that takes some working out and recall, put as many screws and bolts back in the holes they come from and the rest in labeled snap lock bags, you can end up with dozens of different types.

If it is an SR5 check the system for faults first, could give you a clue. If you find out how to do this let us know.

Not sure how you guys went, but the A pillars do need to come out to get to a few bolts that secure the dash. I just pulled on out of a 2011 SR5 to put in my 2006 SR (mine was a company car and is full of deep scratches). plus I wanted to see all the differences in wiring between the SR and SR5.

I have a similar issue where the vent controller in my SR won't turn. Traced it down. The cable/pulley from the dash knob is intact. The problem is under the steering column where the cable/pulley teeth meshes with an axle of sort (poor description). This is jammed and doesn't turn. Like the above I assume something has fallen in to cause it to no longer turn. My question is how do I access?

In the coming year or so I will be doing a complete strip of my dash because I've bought an ex-mining ute with red dust through it... I will take lots of photos of all the parts ect when its all out in the open especially the aircon/heater system :)

Good one LocalFart. Look forward to seeing it. Such a tight area makes it hard to see anything down there.

New one: Ashtray comes out easy, but how about the ashtray holder?

I'd rather not cut it out, as I like to be able to put things back.

Dont smoke, and I have a use for that little slot.

Oh, and can the slide out cup holders be removed easily, for cleaning, or replacing?

Step by step from the GSIC - allow three to five hours to fully strip, clean, blow out and put back together. Done this a heap of times with the ex mining gear.....

Xtracab - look under the cup holder there is a little tab that you have to lift up.

If I dont beat you to it, will look forward to this.
I found enough dust in mine to make me think it will be a worthwhile excercise to give it a good Christmas clean-out.

I handed the GSIC instructions to my daughter with a 10mm, 12mm and 14mm with a Phillips head and a flat blade. Took her less than an hour to get it out

She had dust and black streaks all over her.... I should post the photo .....

Found the instructions elsewhere.
I have the problem with the direction flap not being stuck but i think it broke as it was stiff then i heard plastic snap. looking at removing the whole heater box but can't get the gsic instructions to work. If anyone has a working link or can email the directions to me would be very helpfull.
