I wonder if the map sensot filter could be the cause of my problem. My 05 sr5 goes into the engine control mode when i rev hard in third gear. When towing a boat if i accelerate to join traffic on the. Highway i get the engine icon and cannot get over about 78 keep lometers speed. I disconnect th battery, reconnect a few minutes later and all is good until the next time it happens. Whats the cause

Cheers for the info Boxhead!

Did this on my 2011 D4D Hilux and the their was a fair bit of gunk that came out. Similar to those that have posted pics.

I have a catch can that I'm overdue to install. Maybe I get onto this sooner rather than later eh?

Car does feel a bit pokier onto boost. Looking forward to monitoring my next tank of fuel to see if I'm getting better enconomy!

Thanks again, Boxhead, and to everyone else that posted useful info on this thread :D

Does the actual MAP Sensor itself need cleaning? Not the MAF where the air cleaner is, but the sensor on the intercooler? It has a small hose going directly to the MAP sensor filter.

Go back thru this thread and you find pics of what need cleaning. The map sensor has its own little filter.

Purchased a new MAP filter last week, but will wait until I fit the catch can before replacing it. $50 for a new filter it is easier to change it out.
Thanks to this thread, I never knew about this filter before.

I want to give these 2 parts a clean, can anyone recommend how long it might take to air dry the sensor and filter? If there was any residual moisture would it be a problem?

I just blow through mine (breath) have seen then damaged by compressors. If ya use o2 sensor cleaner it'll evaporate in a few minutes.

Cleaned both yesterday and even for somebody who is only an apprentice backyard mechanic so far, it was easy and only took 5 minutes. 2010 SR with a little over 200k on the clock and pure filth came out of both the sensor and the filter, definitely a noticeable difference in drive afterwards too.

Big thanks to boxhead (original poster) for pointing this out because I would never have known about it otherwise.

I cleaned my MAP filter today. It didn't seem as dirty as others on the thread. I got some sooty stuff out of it, but not heaps, and nothing oily like others have said. I thought it'd be worse since it's an ex-miner with 180k on the clock. Thanks for the info, though. It's something I'll do regularly now.
