How to clean your map sensor filter

Just finished doing this one today.
One of the simplest service projects that I have done, other than checking the dipstick for oil.
Mine was full of the black crap and took about 10 sprays of cleaner to come clear.
Will give it a run later and see how it goes.

Just got back from a test run and all seems good.
Noticeable improvement when you put the foot down in 3rd gear. Goes from 60 to 80 very fast.
Hard to pick any difference at highway speed when you put the foot down at 100 but I suppose the 120 came up fairly quick.
Most of the time I drive like a nanna, so picking a huge difference is a bit hard.

Thought you mates wanted to see how it looks from the upper part of the world 69 * north in Norway.
Got most out just blowing with an compressore nozzel. Sprayed with maf sensor cleaner from CRC but wasn't much more that got out at the point. Let it dry for 5 min after blowing again with compressor.

Only got oil out of the black nipple.
Of course some came out of the grey side but was microscopic.

The picture with less oil in my hand was after blowing with my mouth gently.

Yep. This is a bad one. That that is why you must clean it.

Late to the party in usual fashion but done this and maf sensor today, gunk was a slightly more diluted version of what fubar showed on the rag.

*edit - performance wise only noticeable when you get on the loud pedal, boost comes on slightly earlier and waste gate noise was louder oddly enough.

After doing a service and going over everything I found my map filter cracked, went up to Toyota and trade price is $40.... Had one of these lying around at home, uses the same filter element as the genuine one, $6 from supercheap I think. Part # Z675

can anyone tell me if this supercheap MAP filter works the same as genuine toyota ?

i could just blast carby cleaner through the old one but if they are only $ 6 each then i would replace it and be safe in the knowledge that the old one could have been cracked and i wouldnt know it plus i get a clean one cheaper than the cost of a can of cleaner

any thoughts ?

wouldnt blowing it with compressed air create a risk of cracking the filter ?

and has anyone designed a filter that has an oil trap bowl underneath it so the oil drains into a trap and keeps the filter clean for longer ?

Would be wize to go slow on the compressed air.. I adjusted it down to below 2 bar output and squeised gently on the nozzle handle

Your not going to crack it with compressed air. There is a felt pad in there that is the filter. Just spray brake cleaner in there and blow it out.
Your over thinking this, just clean it and put it back together.

can aerostart ( ether ) be used to clean a MAF sensor ?

also what does the item in red circle do ? vacuum switch ?

do i need to clean that ? i blasted WD40 through the hose ( green line ) that one had plenty of black gunge inside it

my MAF filter ( yellow cross ) came up nice and clean after flushing it with aerostart

i didnt want to touch the MAF sensor with aerostart until i checked compatibility

Oh I thought the mass air flow sensor was the thing I marked MAFS , the thing that sticks in to the middle of the intake flow

No, to cleaning your MAF sensor, with anything but MAF cleaner.
Anything but the right cleaner, will leave a residue on the hot wires. In turn, this will mean false readings going to the ECM.
The red circle, is the intake air pressure sensor. Stay away from that sensor. By all means, clean the hoses, but leave that sensor alone.
With the MAP filter, carby cleaner is best for cleaning these out. Make sure you spray from the bottom barb, as this is the directional flow.
Once the carby cleaner comes out clean, use compressed air to dry it, internally.
You should probably clean these MAP filters, every 10,000kms, I reckon.
If you don't clean the MAP filter, you will surely loose power, as the boost is affected.

The MAF sensor, or mass air flow sensor, is located on the top of your air box housing.
It needs to be cleaned out regularly, as well.
Only use MAF cleaner for this job, as stated above.

Yea any cleaner that will brake down oil will be fine. And trust me. When you clean it you will understand. As I said it has a felt screen in it and it does block up. They are about 30 bucks I think from memory

Cleaned mine today, it was filthy. I cant believe the difference its made, no lag, instant accelleration

How easy is it to pull out. Do I have to pull off any guards or intercooler brackets
