Abs modification turn abs/track off when needed.

Hi all if you are interested. There is a easy way to turn abs or abs with traction control off.

All you need is a good quality switch which is normally on.
Or you could use a switching relay with a custom backlit rocker switch which would turn the relay on.

Basically this modification disconnects the brake switch input into the abs unit.
When the wire is open it renders the abs/ track off, and turns the abs light on on the dash.(indicating a fault)
When you turn the switch back on. The abs light turns off and the abs unit works as it should.

Note this is a insurance voiding mod. If you have an accident with this off you will be completely up shits creek without a paddle.

Process done at your on risk!!!!!

No will post this up here tonight.
Please note this will render your vehicle unroadworthy if you have an accident and it is investigated you will not get insurance.
I will post wire positions and colors or the wire to cut and put the switch into tonight when I get to the computer.

I have tried in both abs and abs with track and it works

Why not fit a faulty relay into the Fuse Box?

atelast in case of an accident, you wont have the finger pointed your way.

Another safe method is to just disconnect a sensor off the hub - it will render the ABS system useless....again, in an accident the finger wont get pointed at you.

True but this will able to be done in the comfort of your ute an the fuse you speak of is a fusible link near the battery so that is out an no relays just the abs module bolted to your abs module under the dash
No problem I will not post how to do it if no one is interested

So utes with only abs it is pin 10
Imagegreen white white trace wire

Utes with abs/ track control it is pin 2
Image
Again green with white trace wire.

All you need to is fit a toggle switch to this wire which is the brake peddle input to the abs controller.
When this wire is open circuit the system will be off and the abs light in the dash will be on
When the wire is closed the system will work as normal with the light in the dash off.

Hope the helps

Just locate the abs module under the bonnet and you will see the water proff plug. And te positions of the wires

There is more then one green with white trace wires so pick the right one
Imagethis is a pic of a just abs type plug and the position of the wire.
Have fun

stupid question BUT couldnt you just cut into the wire away from the plug and somewhere that is really really hard to get to and be more likely to be over looked when someone is looking after a crash? and also just turn it back on if you had forgotn to before the crash?

I spent a good bit of time exploring that option last night dossy. I wasn't smart enough to find anywhere with confidence :D

This one could end up in the too hard basket for me.

Boxhead, what happens if the plug is simply pulled ? This would be very, very temporary, as would use of the switch. I am not game to pull it to see. A few lights would be no prob for a short time, but limp mode, immobilisation, etc would spoil my day big time.

If you removed the plug it will still disable the system but you then stand a chance of getting mud and water and dust into a 2500 dollar module. Where as the. Plug is a water tight unit to stop this from happening.

Is it possible to enable the traction control in 4wd low. It automatically disables in low range, if you are crossed up stuck and have 2 wheels spinning can you enable the TC to get moving again rather than having to use hi 4 and smoking the clutch, the way I understand it is it brakes the spinning wheel and enables the power to the wheel with grip, maybe boxhead can answer this one, sort of a poor mans diff lock. BTW its a 2012 sr5

The reason this disables is due to the extra torque to the wheels in low range. It could brake stuff if you get too carried away, so that's the warning out of the way.

What you want is Very easy to do. Just put a switch on the 4 low gearbox switch wire . This stops the earth signal getting to the abs/track unit when in 4 low, that way it will not turn off, and then you will have your pore mans diff locker

OK so where do I find these wires? Are they the ones that come out of the same ecu for the front diff disconnect?

You would have to disconnect at the abs module I will have to check wiring diagrams out.
