2013 sr 5 rear seat mod

2013 sr 5 rear seat mod

Postby Mattrix79 on Fri, 19 Jul 2013 3:36 +0000

Hi all,
I was lucky enough to pick up a new sr5 the other day. I went to put the kids seats in and couldn't believe the back seat doesn't fold down! I have read through the seat mod thread and it sounds like a good idea but before I start cutting bits off my brand new bus, I thought I'd look into it a bit more as i wasnt sure if the 2013 model brackets had changed. Heres a vid I put together which might help people get there head around the mod. http://youtu.be/EXK0GLNGbiY Im still not 100% sure if the meat left between where i'll cut the bracket and the bit where the catch sits, is enough. Wouldn't a new upside down bracket be better, which allows the back to release when it is at the bottom of its movement? Let me know what you think and I might knock some up.

Matt

I decided to remove the brackets and reverse them so that the seat releases when the base is at 90 degrees. It also give the seat a bit more meat to hold it when in the normal position. Worked a treat.

Lift the bottom of the seat all the way up and you'll find all the bolts.

Did you have to do anything to the seat brackets aside from bolting and removing the little hooks? did it all bolt back up ok?

The mod is pretty straightforward and sometimes you just have to hold your mouth the right way to get everything back together.

Have think about whether you are putting something behind like a bladder or hooks for storage. You might want to.do that at the same time.

Some people wrap the remaining bracket to reduce ratlle when there is no weight on the back seat.

Behind the seat is easily accessed once the mod is complete (that's the point) plus removing seat squab and back is simple anyway so I didn't bother.
