Hi all,
I've been stalking and using ideas from members from here, thankyou guys. Now its time to give back if I can.

Recently when I was cleaning the inside of my lux, I pushed too hard whilst cleaning around the transfer case boot and somehow broke the plastic support that holds the leather boot in place. Rang the dealer to get a price for a new one and died at the price, approx. $170. So I thought we have a nice new 3D printer at work, I sketched up the drawing and printed one. It is working just as good if not better than the original. See pics.

This is on a 2006 SR5 automatic,

EDIT 10/02/2016 - Hi All, until I can get hold of another 3D printer, I'm unable to offer these. Sorry - Woodduck

Cheers

Saving a couple of clams is never a bad thing, good work mate. we're they going to make you pay for the leather and plastic together instead of just paying for the plastic? Geez that's expensive!

PM me for details.

Congrats again on a good job.

I have the exact same problem and was just going to glue the original back together or look at getting a genuine one. Would definitely be interested in getting one made and paying for postage etc...

Mate seeing as you are now in the fabrication business I think a really good idea would be a sun visor for my 2012 toyota sat nav. Was driving today and couldn't even see the screen the sun was so bright, found myself holding my hand over the screen just to see where I was going. I saw a post on here a while ago, one of the boys went to a plastics company and had one made, and it looked like quite a snug fit so it can be done. Obviously a DIY job is also possible but I'm sure there would be a market for an OEM look. But this would also be limited to the capabilities of the 3D printer. If this was available I would buy one in a heartbeat.

That's in my build! Easy as to do and is a very stug fit no movement at all and doesn't look out of place!

Haha mate that's awesome, I would have contacted you to ask a few questions but couldn't find the post/build again.
Does it work we'll? And I'm so, how do I get a hold of one.

Cheers

It's certainly a lot better with it.. I bought a bit of 3mm Perspex and just cut it out to suit. You can cut with a Stanley knife and sand the edges a bit..

Hey all, has anyone figured out a solution to this? I bought my 2010 SR5 with the transfer case plastic broken.
Its doing my head in but not looking at spending $175 at toyota for a new one that will eventualy break again.

So how did you guys fix this common problem?
Also anyone know how to remove it from the transfer case? I tried twinsting(unscrewing)) the transfer stick knob but it didnt work.
Thanks guys

Mine was broken when I bought the car, I just glued it back together with araldite. Been good for a few months now.

Where abouts did you put the araldite?

My plastic frame/surround was broken in 3 places, so with the boot still attached, I just glued it back together.

I replicated the plastic rectangular 'ring' with a bit of stiff wire and a female:female electrical crimp connector. Just need to cut wire to correct length (trial and error required). Also used stapels to attach to 'leather' boot. Wire gauge can be chosen to fit nicely in the clips that hold the ring in place.

Mine was broken in 2 spots.
I removed the boot with the plastic surround still in place.
I used Loctite glue, similar to araldite that claims it holds 140kg.
Glued it on my bench and left it to sit for 2 days to properly harden.
I removed the top section of the centre console to fit it properly and bingo, all done.
Bought the glue from Bunnings.

I have the same issue with my plastic being broken. Is it possible that I can buy one off you.
Please let me know as soon as possible.

Thanks,
