Fan belt tensioner tool

Fan belt tensioner tool

Doing a service today and decided that I've got my money's worth from the original fan belt (115k) and decided to change it. Ratchet and socket wouldn't fit in there between the tensioner and fan and a spanner was too short.
I ended up finding an old 14mm ring spanner which I cut in half. Then I got a bit of 1/2" square tube that I had lying around. In the end of the tube I cut a wedge out of each side on one end then put the end of the spanner in it and tacked it in place. I then folded the top of the tube down to meet the spanner which closed up the wedge then grabbed the oxy and crudely welded it all together.
It worked an absolute treat and I had the old belt out and new belt in in less than ten minutes. This will definitely be carried in my spares kit with the spare belt 8-)

Handy piece of equipment 8-)

My old man has countless special homemade tools for special jobs which he puts in special places but never remembers where that special place is

^^^ and you are always tripping over it when you don't need it and shows up 5mins after you finish the job :x
The funniest part about you reading my signature is that by the time you read the whole thing from start to finish you only then realise there is nothing interesting in it.

Awesome. I've now done the same but I also attached the open end spanner on the opposite end of the bar I used.

A lot better than having to use two spanners looped into each other and then losing all the skin off ya knuckes.

14mm socket, small 3/8 breaker bar, piece of small pipe. Works perfect.

At my work we made same tool... piece of 25x5mm flat bar, drilled a hole in one end and welded in half a 14mm socket.

Yep, this. I find the 3/8" socket set gets a lot more use with the lux than the 1/2" set. The 1/2" tools are too big for many situations.
