Removing Cigarette lighter panel!!

Removing Cigarette lighter panel!!

Postby Jay_3844 on Thu, 12 Jul 2012 12:30 +0000

Hi all,
Been awhile since I've been active, due to a lack of funds....

I've had a fair look around on here and haven't found the answer to my problem.
How on earth do you remove the panel that the cigarette lighter and the 3 switch mounts are in? Have tried just pulling, without busting it, no screws (that I can see).
Any help is much appreciated. I'm going to put in some rocker switches from custom rockers, so need to cut a hole through the panel. much easier if I can take it out and work with it on the work bench rather than crouched over the gear stick.

Cheers,
Jay

Actually there is one screw holding it in.
Pull the control knobs off and behind the middle there is a screw that you have to remove. Then grab the edges of the plastic surround and pull.

He's talking about the lower cigarette lighter panel mate, not the stereo surround

Yep, you gently pry it out. Look at each side from behind with a torch to see the clips that hold it in.

You can reach up and push a few of the clips in to make it easier to pull the surround out.

what i do, is remove the cigarette lighter and the power plug (neither have power when the truck is off), put your thumbs in them and pull.. it all pops out..

(Now I wait for the comments to follow) ;)

Remove the glove box, have a feel/look and press down some of the clips. Should be able to push it out

yeah the clips are pretty tight.
just take your time and you wont slip and bugger up the fascia. i used a flat head screw driver, started on one side and it just popped off.
i did take the glove box off and have a look first though...
