No Matt. The flares and 7.5" rims were only (AFAIK) on the option pack SRs with the VSC/TC.

Mine has the Trac/VSC as standard, not as part of an option pack.

The accountants at Toyota deleted the flares and the 7.5s when the VSC/TC were made standard on some (now all) model SRs from some time around Nov 2013 - much to my disappointment, as I would have liked the flares and the 7.5s. I have been able to source some 7.5s but may need flares. Wont know for sure until I fit tyres and try them on.

If it wasn't for the previous post about a 2013 SR, I would be inclined to think the ADD is part of the 2014 update and Toyota's attempts (ANCAP 5 etc) to hold off the sales pressure from the opposition until the new model Hilux is released.

I'm just curious as to the answer.

Aha !! Perhaps we have the answer - ADD is fitted, for whatever reason, with TC/VSC ??? Yes ?? No ???

That's a bummer about the problem with your ADD. I recall that at least one or two models ago, there were reportedly solenoids(?) in the ADD which failed from time to time and were rather pricey to fix.

My understanding is that ADD is currently pretty reliable despite the fact that it is far more complex than locking hubs. Perhaps I have been misled :)

Well that is my understanding anyway! Yes it is an expensive fix, thats why im putting off doing it. Mine but the dust cause the unit filled up with water and caused it to fail. Im lucky its failed in the locked position so when I put it in 4wd it still works, just driving around normally it means everything is spinning like a normal sr. I wish it just had manual locking hubs...

Any idea how the water got in ?? Maybe the vacuum pipe got damaged ??

Certainly sounds like another good reason for a front diff breather, ARB style deflectors/splash guards under the front, care when fording, and anything else you can think of.

The diff has a breather and the add unit has a separate breather. But if everything is blistering hot. Water will always find a way in as it is a vacuum effect caused by the quick cooling of the assemblies. If no water get in you will get condensation That's for sure.

Perhaps I should have said "breather extension" :)

Ah what happened was when i had the diff drop kit installed, they didnt extended the add breather, so the first river crossing I went through the whole thing filled up with water. Car had only done 1500kms at the time, as you can imagine I was pretty stoked

Don't forget Toyota breather hats are basically a check valve not a proper breather. They are set up to relieve pressure and close when asked to draw.

Which is precisely why, as BH said, the components fitted with the "breathers"/check valves suck water in past the seals when rapidly cooled by immersion. No excuse for any of us not to fix this (except I'm a bit slow to act  )

if add is fitted, is there a light on the dash to indicate it is connected/disconnected, or is spinning the front tailshaft the best way of checking it. I have an sr built in December 2013 which seems in every respect to be a 2014 model and has a jan 2014 compliance plate.

there is no light, and afaik, the ADD is a sliding collar that "connects" the driveshaft to the diff

fwiw, my SR5 is Jan 11. it is essentially a 2010 model, but comes with the MY11 upgrade pack. While I didn't know it at the time, I got all good toys (VSC, ABS, TSC etc), 5 alloys, larger brakes, larger clutch, better injectors.

I'm guessing because it was the last of the non facelift models, they threw a few extras in
2011 Dual Cab SR5 D4D manual.

There is no light on my ADD equipped 2014 SR. Just the usual 4WD light.

Not sure about your question. Are you simply trying to check how ADD works, or whether you have it ?
