Horny Stuff

Hmm.. I suck at wiring. Spent about 2 hours making sure I had everything wired and crimped properly.

Relay wiring i've followed:
30 - inline fused wire to the battery with a 30amp fuse
85 - earthed
86 - current horn plug
87 - new horn positive

Then earthed the new horn...

tried to test it. Nothing, fuse is fine, tried a 2nd fuse just to be safe, no luck. :?
Cheers,
Jay

I would check earths and also make sure you have switched positive to pin 86 from the oem feed.

I'll check 'em all out, maybe I need better earths.

Whats switched positive to pin 86 from the oem feed? :?
I just slid the current plug straight on to the relay - it seemed to fit, tried both horn plugs.

Jay

The plug on the oem horn is definitely positive because the horn itself earths to the body.
I would say check all the earths as well.
And did you use the relay that came with the kit? Cause there are two types of relay normally open and normally closed and if you got the wrong one that will have you chasing your tail.

I'm loving the idea of a decent horn and the Stebel looks the business. Just wondered if anyone has any had any legal issues with a loud air horn?

Yep, used the relay supplied... maybe that's my problem :?

Bad image, but this is the type of relay.. is it not the correct one?

That's the correct relay. I used the same one.
Things to check.
Is the relay clicking when horn is pressed? (unplug factory horn so you can hear the relay)
Do you have power from terminal 87?
Is this power connected to the correct terminal on the air horn? (There is a small + and - sign moulded in the plastic on the air horn)
Do you have a good earth running from the air horn to the body?
Still not working? Run a jump wire directly to battery + to air horn to check it actually works.

Thanks Andy, i'll try go over it all in the next few days.
Now i'm thinking it'll be the earthing. From memory, wasn't hearing any clicking from the relay.

Arlom, haven't heard of anyone with issues, but it's prob advised not to use it behind an officer...

How did you go getting the horn to work Jay? I'm off to Jaycar shortly to buy the wire/fuses ect.

It seems the longer it has taken me to put this horn in, the worse other drivers have become... I'm looking forward to something better to prevent idiots trying to merge into me!

Got it all working, pretty sure I just wasn't earthing it properly.

I've given it a bit of use already from idiots on the road. It's much louder than the stock horn, but not too over the top. ;)
Cheers,
Jay

Just getting around to installing my nautilus compact horn.

I am using this kit:
http://www.amazon.com/Universal-Plug-n- ... roduct_top

I can't get it to beep!

Questions
1) Is this a correct setup for the positive and ground?
Image

Image

2) There were two wires going into the oem horn clip. I cut them and tried connecting them to the two blue wires individually, both to one and tried connecting one and grounding the other. Is there something else I should be trying?

Image

I am a newbie at car wiring, so any advice would be appreciated!

Thanks!

solved it - the relay was wired wrong! #*(^@(.

Also on my hilux horn, both wires connected to one spade connector then to the 86 on relay. Then ran 87 directly to same ground as horn is on.

For anyone who needs it:

No BS install for Stebel, plug and play.

G'Day Guys

I was about to order this

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/261710243724

But, when I checked what I already have under the bonnet of my D4D '12 I can see two very small horns with one cable running to each.

No relay in sight, probably as they are drawing very little current ???

Is this 'normal', why two crappy horns not just one ???

2 horns give a nicer sound.
The SR model has only 1 horn. I'll try remember to do a comparison between a mate and mine next time we go somewhere.

Bought a Stebel Nautilus on ebay with plug and play loom.

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Stebel-Nauti ... 1e9ad1cfc7

Very easy to install, took 5 minutes and instructions are clear. Plug loom into relay that comes with horn, +/- to horn, blue wire on loom to existing horn cable (SR - single horn, single cable), black cable to chassis (used old horn mount). Then +/- to battery and done. Bolts straight on to points in front of radiator. Sounds like a ship.

So, I have been contemplating the Stebel but haven't got around to getting one yet. I know someone who owns an auto electrics warehouse and he's offered me this horn at a price I can't say no to (not the advertised price on here) . Can't find any clips on YouTube showing the sound, but it's 112db. My question is does anyone know if this will plug and play or will I have to wire it in?
