Constant air compressor

Postby kyle300exc on Thu, 16 Jun 2011 2:34 +0000

There was some conversation some time ago in regards to constant air, some may already have these compressors fitted but for those who don't. Ive spoken with Craig who is in the business and this is the response he gave me: Hi Kyle

Thanks for your enquiry and I would be happy to assist you with any information regarding our air on boards systems.

At present we have developed the system for the 3.0 ltr turbo diesel with the 1KD-FTV engine and have plans to work up a system for the 4.0 ltr 6 cylinder with the 1GR-FE engine and maybe the 2.7 ltr 4 cylinder 2TR-Fe just as soon as we can get hold of a test vehicle.

In answer to your questions our systems are supplied complete, every component you need to install a fully working AOB system right down to the cable ties is supplied. I am happy to send you the parts list if you want to send me an email address.

Will there be an loss of power?
As for loss of power there is none because the pump will only operate when you need air. All the rest of the time the clutch free spin.

At the moment Craig is out of stock and as I get more info I will add it here.

Pricing will vary as to how many components you require but the compressor I believe is somewhere around the $300 mark.

1 cubic foot = 28.3168466 litres

8 x 28.3168466 litres = 226.5347728

Answer is 226.5347728 litres per minute

So thats approx a 50 % improvment on your standard 150 litre per minute compressor.
Now 226 litres per minute is at 2000 rpm so you would expect if you ran the revs a little higher you could get a greater output?

Constant air compressor

Postby schultzie on Thu, 16 Jun 2011 7:27 +0000

8cfm is a lot!!! Mini truckers use setups like this and never run out of air :) my xr8 has 3 viair 480c compressors in it and they are 2.53 cfm and I can run a rattle gun no dramas, I have 8 gallons of storage as well.

Engine driven compressors are worth their weight in gold and at $300 I will be getting one for my lux,

What does he offer in the way of tanks?

Unless you make a some throttle mods or have someone else squeezing the peddle won't you be operating at idle??

Sounds like a great system though

You would still be able to operate the compressor at idle, it would just have a lower output wouldnt it?

Yes good point idle is what about 1000 rpm.
I was also hearing from wok that he put a hand idle controler from a pajero or something on his patrol. Has anyone got any info on this. If you could wind up the idle it would benefit the compressor and also heat exchanger?

Because our truck is fly b wire you need to do this electronically by tapping in to the throttle position sensor. I would love to have a hand throttle or Idle up control. You can get them for Jeeps in the US but I gave up looking for a suitable one for the Hilux!

Or being such a low idle would it still spin the compressor and produce air? Or like alby said would just halve the output....

Revs sit on 900 rpm, with the power heat button on it runs at 1200.
Was looking at a hand throttle, Rod did a bit of work on it. I dont want anything too dodgey though. He found 1 off around a 60 series cruiser. Not sure if they are available now but it might be able to be modified.
Just has a knob mounted on the dash somewhere and the other end fixes to the accelerator somewhere.

Skog anybody got any suggesstions??
