Got her fixed this morning & confirming no charge.
Only thing is the stupid seat-belt beep is back & they also reconnected the key-beep wire inside the steering column for me (grrr) so no I have to look them back up on here to 'fix' them again! LOL.

I actyually plugged mine in BEFORE going in ... coz i thought it might cause some problems (have heard of others going in for ECU flash and having problems and the dealer not realising the steering column plug was unplugged) ... so i plugged it in to remove any speed bumps with them diagnosing and fixing the clockspring.

Hi All,

My Hilux (KUN16R) is around a May 2005 build and has just over 182,000km on clock. I went to Toyota and they put a 'Good Will Claim' for my failed clock spring and it was denied. I then emailed Toyota Customer Service and made a follow up call a couple of days later and they said the assessors knocked it back. After giving them a piece of my mind and hanging up I then jumped on Ebay and ordered one from a place in Sydney (StarCitySpares or something like that), $159, should be here this week so I'll fit it on the weekend. Anyhow, that's my experience. Good luck with your attempts if yours is over the 7 year or 200,000km mark.

Also, had no luck with my claim on replacing my super loud and rattely D4D injectors either! Doh!

Still a good ute though!
Cheers, Al.

Airbag light just came on. Late 2006 build, 194,000Kms.
Walked into local Toyota dealer (Charlestown Toyota) and asked the question....no problem, they didn't even have to ask Toyota Aust.
Booked in for Monday to have clock spring replaced for free.
Haven't been real impressed by these guys in the past but was pleasantly surprised today.
Regards Chris.

I started life with nothing, and I've still got most of it left

I changed my clockspring (which I bought from ebay) today, with a little bit of help from this thread thank you.

Only took less than 20 mins max......
I also pulled the old one apart and did some testing, the 5-6 core ribbon cable wrapped inside the assembly has a break in it somewhere on one of the cores causing the problem for so many hilux's.
Probly fixable but for $100 for a new one its great peice of mind.

for anyone with a car over 200ks,out of the warranty period, its an easy job to do yourself

cheers

I hear you mate, but the several dealers I rang didnt!!!!!!!! 200ks is the cut off they all told me,
lately Ive been driving on some dodgy blackspot roads and would like to think my hilux will protect me to the best of its abillity, good or bad.
Im not about to gamble my safety for the sake of dealer arrogance ,so just spent the $100 and 20mins of my time,So I bit the bullet and did it myself. Im more confident now ready to take on the biggest of trees/trucks etc    .... and NO airbag LIGHT ON gota be happy with that.
In the last 2 weeks Ive taken long service leave from work this was the only real job Id acheived, due to kids/family/me being bloody sick, but THAT is another story.

My car is from 2007 (hilux xtra cab) and 118000km.
I live in France, and toyota refuse the good will claim because the warranty is over since 2 years, and the posts from board on the internet (i put some posts from this topic) "can't be verified".
Are all hilux clock spring compatible with all models, or are they different version for invincible, legende, lecap, etc?
Would this one be compatible with my lecap hilux ?

Thanks for your answer.

Have you got a Department of Transit that you could speak to?

That would be my first point of call.

On the part, i really have no idea

i have my answer, this item http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll ... 0938510697 is compatible with 2007 hilux (even european version).
For the price, 90euro, seems pretty interesting comparing to what toyota asks me : more than 400 euro. I will try to replace it myself.

For the departement of transit, i have no idea.

Just be careful with these cheap ones,I recently changed my clock spring with an ebay job,it lasted 2 weeks before it chewed the ribbon cable into little peices,I contacted the seller which sent me a replacement, straight away for free, but only lasted 1 hr and Airbag light came back on.
Im going to recheck all the connections before i contact them for another replacement, they were both the same batch number so it may just been a bad batch.
Cheers

I'm also having trouble with my ebay one, bought earlier this year and now it's apparently rooted. Seller says 3 month warranty only, but trying to pursue with Fair Trading (they're based in Victoria)

Toyota have also denied the free replacement due to being more than 7 years old

Considering the cost of a new, genuine though aftermarket seems only economical option

Go toyota :D

Yeah a lot of them are coming to the party with this. My local stealership said they'd fix it in vehicles up to six years old and 200K . they only had mine for just over two hours.

Just did mine today, took about 1.5 hrs and that included a trip to the hardware to buy some torx bits. Simple job.The instructions from maddog are great!
Pulled the old one apart and the only thing damaged I could see was the ribbon had a small wear mark.
I bought one from ebay for $120 as I hate toyota dealers touching/stuffing things. Hope it lasts!

SRS light came on last week. Left the 2007 dual cab at dealer this morning. The receptionist already knew that was due to the spiral cable / clock spring. Got replaced under "out-of-warranty" warranty. They even found out the clutch was too heavy and lightened it for free.
