Just to clarify - are you saying you can change on the fly to H2 from L2 (L4 with the front disengaged) ? I always thought you had to be under 5km/hr or stopped to change the transfer from high to low or vice-versa??

From L2 to H2 is ok but you cant go the other way. I do it all the time when taking off with my work trailer. even though i dont have the sr5 with you fancy disconecting front diff :( I want one)

Thanks to all at this site for you information on the diff disco function, I have installed this mod and put in a NC relay so that the little lights are all correct on the custom rocker switch. Cheers

Have a look in my shed if you want a wiring diagram. Not to sure how to add an image.

Hi all I did this mod today on my auto best half hour spent working on my car yet considering what I now have available. just two questions why is this not a factory fitting and also does it matter if the wire I used is 4mm as it is all I had on hand.

Mitch.

Was wondering the same thing myself.
Is the diff ratio the same for SR and SR5?
If so would it be possible to get an SR5 diff from a wrecker and fit to an SR and just operate it manually with a switch?

if you compare an SR5 front diff with a SR front diff you'll see they are different beasts.. yes you'd be able to put an sr5 diff in an sr, but the A.D.D requires additional wiring / modules etc in order to work correctly..

yes the diff ratios are the same, (well manual sr -> manual sr5 and auto sr-> auto sr5 are), but obviously the manual and auto's have different ratios..

Thanks Steve, I'll look into it.
I should be able to just tap into the vacuum supply, get the electric over vacuum solenoid from the wreckers too and operate it manually with a switch in the cab, instead of letting the car do it. The car won't even know it's there.

So basically if you have an SR you can't do this mod.

Did this mod this week so my wife doesn't smoke the clutch pulling the ski out of the water. Thanks for the tip boys.

I tried to do a link from my phone but failed so you'll have to copy and paste but these guys do a switch just for the job. Not bothered myself, just putting it out there.

Im probably way off track, but doing this mod would this allow me to run an auto locker in the front? When on the road simply turn it off (2wd) then off road flick it on? Ultimately having an e locker???

Running an auto locker in the front is neither here nor there
All the switch does is stop the ADD from 'connecting', thus enabling low range 2wd.

now that I've covered that, what auto locker are you looking at? I'd love one in the front of mine

I was thinking along the lines of the Detroit True Trac. Its basically a worm geared LSD, so instead of clutch operated, it drives the gears together under load...you can check it out on the Detroit website. I have been told we can run them in the front of ours, but then again Ive been told we cant! Who knows....?

yeah, i had looked at it, and heard the same about it.

I prefer the Yukon Grizzly (almost exactly the same, but better), but it's only available for the rear
