Folding back seat mod - For ALL dual cabs

There are two bolts on either side on the bracket that secures the whole seat to the raised mount on the floor, they're behind the plastic trim- these are the ones you need to remove and then you can lift the seat base to lift the seat back off the loops to gain access to the hooks.
When done locate the bracket back onto the lugs at either side, start the bolts and then tighten back up

Are these the two bolts I need to take off to take the seat out in the first place?

Once I cut the plastic.. The two bolts must be secured again right?

I havent see a pic like the ones from my bolts in the thread so I ask :)

Ok i was looking at it wrong.. The 2 bolts are not those in the picture.. The one at the bottom is and right on top of that one you will see the other one.. You can see it only with the bottom seat --> up...

Cut the 42cm as indicated and MoD successful!!

Now I just need to get a net like that and I'm all set!

Thanks for all the instructions!

That's the one I have, it was the smallest they had. Works fine, though I wouldn't mind a slightly smaller one, my snatch straps tend to sag down lower than the seats when it's folded up.
Cheers,
Jay

hi guys,

i did this modification but i have noticed the backrest of the seat has a bit of movement and when going 4x4 or hitting bumps on the road something is hitting. have had a look and the backrest has quite abit of movement when its locked in.

anyone else had this and f so what solution did you have to fix it?

My 06 also has the rattle. Mine is due to the plastic around the hook having worn away, nothing to do with the mod. It was annoying me way before doing the mod. If anything it probably makes it easier to try to fix now that the hooked section is gone. I use the space on one side to store my exhaust jack. Helps hold the seat tight as well to quieten the rattling of the seat back.

My o7 did as well when I pulled it back out, I put a straight edge across it and one side was out a bit, meaning the bracket was bent or not formed properly, and seeing in the mod that the hook actually is cured which must have pulled the seat back on one side further, it didn't rattle after the mod / hook was removed in the mod one side rattled.

Duct tape fixes everything - put it on the catch not the hook though, unless others have a more professional solution ;) but it works for me.
If I have anything Good to Say it will be Above.

Finally got around to doing this mod today not to gain extra space but to fix my rattling back seats .

Found this little notch worn in the bracket ... Who would of thought this little notch could of caused such an annoying rattle .Wrapped the catches the seat back hooks onto in electrical tape and the rattle is gone :D

I'm about to do this mod to fit some radio gear in the space. I'm planning on installing a carpeted ply board and then attaching equipment to that. I'd like to see pics or gather info on how others have attached board in that area. What I'm thinking of doing is fixing the board with 4 or 6 screws (but at least as few as possible to reduce holes in the new truck). I'd prefer using existing bolt holes and brackets but there doesn't appear to be any...or perhaps I can use the mounting points for the seats, make up a bracket and then some more at the top of the board and secure that to the rail that runs across the cab to avoid new screw holes that exit to the outside? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Try sticking battens of wood to the rear panel using clear silicone.
Once set you can then screw onto the battens

Yeah I was thinking of carpeting some ply and then using liquid nails or similar to fix it in

Didn't even consider that option! That's gold!
But it's an SR5 so it's all lined back there. I might take that lining out...

I'm pretty sure there is a rail behind the lining to fix to rather than putting a screw throught the cab

Ducks nuts this mod is! Cut down and grind a smooth edge on the underside. I found you can fine tune by tweaking the loops that the hooks go through by a few mm up or down. If you dont get them EXACT one side rubs. Thanks for sharing
