Who ever thought of this mod is a legend, I took the rear seat out to mount a ctek 250s dual on the back wall, all went well til a few weeks later I thought I should put the seat back in. Well because of the way you need to manoeuvre the seat for that hook back into the bracket the ctek was in the way and I matter how much I swore at it it was not going back on.
Did this mod in under ten minutes and mounted back in place in about 2 min

Now I don't have to re position the ctek :D

What a sanity saver !!!

gone-fishin29 wrote:hey, want to do this mod but just want to recap how too.
Unbolt the 4 bolts that hold seat base down.
Lift seat to 45 deg and it should fall out. (i have 08)
Cut hooks off the back of seat so that about 40mm remains.
Then if i understand corrctly it should just fold back into position and to fold up and down, just pull the strap as before.
Is this correct?
Cheers

Thank you

That's easy done but I put a push on/ off button in the steering column trim under the steering wheel. That way it is easy to turn back on if required cost me like 3 bucks from jaycar.

Okay so I'm a special kid...
Can you fold the seat up as per usual after doing this? Like.. you know how the bottom half comes up. Because thats where my doggies normally live when they're in the car (yes they're spoiled)

You can bend it up both ways so you can get to both bits of space....so yes

Ok Im ready to do this today.. Read the whole thing but I have a question..

Are these the two bolts I need to take off to take the seat out in the first place?

Once I cut the plastic.. The two bolts must be secured again right?

I havent see a pic like the ones from my bolts in the thread so I ask :)

Correct. Please secure the bolts or whoever rides in the back next will be sliding all over the place! Haha

You'll only need to take off out the bottom bolt from memory, one on each side, then the whole seat should lift out.
I'm curious to see how fun it'd be without re-securing the bolts now though, be like playing corners-extreme.

Fyi guys be careful when doing this as it affects your insurance cover if you were to have the vehicle assessed when involved in a accident.

What year is yours?
Maybe it changes per model?

Thats pretty much what makes me anxious to do this mod. I don't want to crash my car, have whoever is in the back fly through my windscreen and then be done for manslaughter because I cut off a piece of my backseat...

You need to lift the bottom of the seat up 45degrees before the back can begin to unhinge, and the bottom is locked down. There'd be as much chance of someone flying through your windscreen with or without having the mod done. It'd just be something that's out of the ordinary for the assessor to be able to try and fault.

I was going to say having done this mod and having an engineering background I firstly marked up and measured what would be left on the hooks and the chances of them pulling free and my conclusion was "no chance"

In all fairness firstly if the back seat passengers were wearing seatbelts the seat back couldn't go anywhere even if was to break free, plus it'd need to do so at both sides;
Secondly for that to happen the cab floor would need to be pushed up by at least 25mm and bearing in mind the chassis is directly underneath the seat on both sides, a loose seat back would be the least of the passenger's worries.

One tip though if you do think you've cut a little bit too much off just bend the hoops up a little so that they rest right in the bend of the hook.
Works the other way as well, bend down if you haven't cut enough off ;)
