The ignition won't detect a key and when the keys are in the ignition and turned to off,
with all the doors closed, after a short while the car automatically locks itself, this doesn't happen when the beeper is connected.

Horse shit.....

I have the beeper disconnected and leave my keys in my car all the time will all windows up and doors shut. It only re locks itself if I have unlocked with remote and haven't opened a door.

And to those worried about the headlight audible alarm with the ignition wire disconnected, another load of horse shit... Seriously, I read responses on threads sometimes and wonder who has been smoking what..! I'm sure some people just talk out of there arses... and its normally with only a few post counts!

Only time the Hilux will lock itself is if you press unlock on the remote and dont open a door....

Only way too lock your keys in is rookie error

That was what the locksmith told me....?
I have been paranoid about leaving my keys in the ignition since !
Good to know it doesn't and I'll be advising him of his incorrect information
Cheers :)

Was just doing that door mod and noticed the front door switch framework is recessed in the rubber boot ,a quick fix is take the 10mm bolt out of the door switch and alarm stops .Maybe silastic it there, The bolt is the return path for the circuit.
Quick fix, if its doing your head in.Just don't leave your interior light on.

Dee-beeped my seatbelt on 2nd attempt - 3 minutes
Dee-beeped the ignition - 5 minutes
= 100,000,000,000 minutes of tranquility

For the rest of you ladies out there... No man required :D
Actually... that wouldn't be a bad section to have on this site

Do I understand correctly, you only need to disconnect the 2 cables at the ignition key and not cut any wires.

Thanks terls.

Correct just unplug one of the connections in it (one does the light the other does the beep)

I think ill do this mod tomorrow although I like the idea of being able to turn the radio on with the keys out and avoid the whole debacle, my wife's car you just press the power button on the radio and it turns back on. Has anyone tried wiring it up that way? Maybe permanent power with a switch, although you would want it to turn on and off like normal just with the ability to manually turn the radio on with no keys. I'm sure someone with a better electric understanding than me could figure this out.

Also with the doors auto locking, some of the guys at work would leave the keys under the floor mat during shift change, these are for the relevant part standard sr Hilux's. Randomly a few different people had them lock. I don't know how or why but figure it must be a setting, maybe like the seatbelt that can be turned on or off and nothing to do with the ignition beeper wire.
Why not? Have a go!
If all fails it's only money...

I've wired up my radio through a DPDT switch I had custom made so one way it switches on and off with the car the other way is always on while I was at it I made it always get its power from the aux battery as well. To try and keep this thread on topic if you want more assistance go to my build

under the steering wheel colum is 1 screw holding the plastic on, remove it

then turn the steering wheel 1/4 turn left, remove thr screw behind the wheel, repeat for 1/4 turn tot he right

remove lower column cover

on the ignition barrel is a white plug with only 2 wires, one is green and 1 a cream / beige colour from memoery

unplug this, and replace the column cover.

i have found no issues after doing this as it is just a loop wire that detects key in lock barrell

the headlights etc still beep

Spot on, the only thing I would add if you have a 2014 model there is a little metal screw at the back centre of the cowling and when the time comes to reassemble use a magnetic screwdriver or a bit of blue tack as it is impossible to line up otherwise.

If I do not get any thing else from this forum I am now a happy camper, this is brilliant finally to be able to leave the door open and have the radio on without the Beep, beep, beep, beep
thanks, you have saved my sanity
